I just can’t agree with this take. The Beard has some really unusual circumstances.

We don’t even know if the new coaching staff didn’t nudge him a little.

There is no guaranteed money left in his contract. He's walking away from his $7 million salary this year. And the 11 million dead money is due to two restructures.
They may be able to lessen the dead money if he is retired after June 1st.

I don't think there's a fix. Too easy to game an "injury", particularly for older players retiring.
