This is really tough. I completely understand why he might want to retire given his illness, I just wish he would have told us a bit earlier so we could have found a more suitable replacement.

Heath and Jones will probably be addition by subtraction.

I wouldn’t go that far. A lot will depend on who replaces them. Heath was better than some gave him credit for. He was around the ball more than anyone we had back there. He certainly wasn’t a great loss but it’s all going to come down to the players we replace the lost players with.

I’m not saying Frederick isn’t great, but you won the division the last time Looney had to start 16 games. If there was a star you could afford to lose...
Frederick was just ok last year his greatness left in 2017 sad story

I read maybe 6 pages of the sky is falling. I’ll miss Frederick but we got looney and McGovern and I’m still more concerned with LT.

Gonna miss you big guy. No hard feelings here he has to do what is best for him and his family wish him all the best in whatever he does in the future. Sad to see such a great player walking away.

Hoping for the best for him.

Also, I never miss a chance to praise Looney. He didn't just fill a hole in 2018 -- he excelled. Maybe peak Fred Beard is asking a lot, but I thought he was very good.

Had a hunch and called it a while back.

I suffer from the same sort of condition and I have issues doing my 9-5 can’t imagine someone having to do something as physically demanding as playing professional football with it.

Maybe he was waiting for a specific recovery milestone and got his answer and it wasn't good. It still beats how Witten did it.

Center was McGovern's secondary position. We don't even know right now if he can play guard at an NFL level.

This should concern you as a fan. It is not just something that we "prepared" for.

This has caught us about as flat-footed as Witten quitting right before the draft.

We have much more behind Frederick than we had behind Witten. Looney, who's already done it. And McGovern, a third round pick who was considered a 2nd rounder. Top interior olinemen are one of the better bets in the league. I thought McGovern was a good pick. He won't be perfect. but if we just drafted him to start at C, I'd say ok. Looney is the bridge veteran, if needed, McGovern is the starter for the future.

Just what do you expect to have sitting on the bench when a long term starter leaves? We're *more* prepared at C than we have a right to expect.

We haven't had the real Frederick for 2 years. The offense still rolled last year. We'll continue not to have him. It's will be a big drop relative to my expectation of having him back 100%, but not so big a drop relative to the last 2 years.

Connor McGovern has some experience at playing the center position also. Between him and Looney, there should be no need to burn a badly needed draft pick on a center. Fix the defense!

The good news is that we have Williams, McGovern and Looney to compete for the two starting spots. The bad news is none of them ever may be on Frederick's peak level.

Even not at his peak last year, one of the reason the blocking improved is because Frederick makes good adjustments based on what he sees. He doesn't get fooled much in making sure everyone is picking up the right man on stunts and blitzes.

Sad. And a huge blow to the Talent level around here and peoples hopes of us being Elite. Also I've said it before, eventually Dak will play with far worse offensive lines than the one people were whining about; it is just too many positions to replenish to always be elite.

Losing Travis stings, but it was quite evident he wasn't the same player last year. I was surprised to see Looney resigned, now it makes perfect sense. The team was aware of his retirement. They have a few in-house options at the position and should be fine. As for Travis, always a class act, great teammate/person, wish him well!

This one stings. Only 29 one of the Captains of the O-Line. Great locker room guy.

Now we gotta burn a pick on another Center.
Next year maybe, wouldn’t reach for one this year.

Too many other needs to address with first 4-5 picks.

Looney will be a decent stop gap this year.
