Former Pro-Bowl DE selected 7th overall out of Missouri by the Niners back in 2011. Served multiple suspensions for smoking weed before entering rehab. Was eventually suspended for the entire 2016 & 2017 seasons. Now 30 years old, he hasn’t played in the league since 2015.

Aldon had a serious alcohol problem as well. Bigger issue than the weed for sure

Wow 4mill for a dude out of the league that long??

how do you not go get Everson Griffin since you essentially have a Aldon smith clone in RandyG also coming back

Not really high on this move

4 million seems crazy, so I have to believe there were other bidders. But we have the space, so why not.

That's 4 mill if he meets his bonuses.

Heck, we don't even know if he's got any guaranteed money.

This is very much likely a "4 mill if you make the team and play well" deal. Ask yourself this ... if a guy who was once a dominant DE comes in and earns enough playing time to rack up eight sacks in the season, is that player worth 4 mill? He sure would be.

Only crazy thing is that people over and over fail to understand the non-guaranteed nature of most NFL contracts.

Woah now. 4 million? Won’t complain on taking a flyer

But could’ve got a Shelby Harris at DT or somebody solid. Not a dude out of the league for 4 years lol

If crooked Goodell allowed Aldon Smith back into the league AND to sign with our Cowboys, why is there a holdup about letting Randy Gregory and David Irving back???

People freaking out like he’s guaranteed the whole contract lol
