First, you have not explained the dynamics involved at present, to declare why failure and not success is at work in the present. Things have changed that do affect the current progressions. I don't buy a stereotyped agenda, myself.
The defense, at the very least, has a potential to greatly expand play. The past excuses be damned, until logic can be proven wrong.
