"Elite". An individual or group that is superior to another.
Was Eli Manning an "Elite" quarterback because his team's won 2 Super Bowls??
Was Dan Marino Not an elite quarterback because his team never won a Super Bowl while he was there??
exactly those with eyes know Marino was Elite, Eli that top of the heap tier 2 guy in the same levels as a rivers, Stafford, Dak, wentz, Romo, and ..its just reality

why it hurts fans feelings , its the truth..

Like I said before, I am in between on Dak but he will get paid top 10 money by the Jones boys.
he was offered top 5 money.. top 10 ship has sailed LOL

he doesnt deserve more then 33/105 and thats why its been stuck for 18 months in negotiations..if there was no doubt he would have a deal by now. the jones know hes tier 2 and are cringing at [paying him more then RW..as they should be..

A fluff piece from Jerry’s propaganda machine, no two ways about it Dak isn’t elite and it is a wide gap between moderate / good to elite and Dak isn’t close. Dak’s pay should be in the good range no more, nowhere near top10 money.
You’re not making sense. Why would Jerry’s propaganda machine make up a fluff piece in attempts to get Dak paid more than Jerry wants to pay? That’s some dumb idiotic bs. Please proof read before posting. :facepalm:

It would be odd if the label was generally applied without having first been earned through on-field performance. Saying that, it was pretty obvious more or less immediately in the case of guys like Rogers, Mahomes and Marino.
You named 3 quarterbacks with only 2 SBs between them. Lol. Yea. Ok

its a very accepted term used by fans because there are players who are in another tier on another level..same in all sports..

MJ=Elite
Howard =tier 2

Luka =elite
Seth Curry=tier 2

Steph Curry =elite
Seth curry =tier 2

its easy to see but fans blinded because they dont want to admit they a have 2nd rate qb..hey be blind be obvious to the natural pecking in order as sports accepts being tier 2 is not knock could be tier 3 or JAG theres always place to fall..:oldcouple::popcorn:
That’s your opinion. I would prefer to say Greats. Not elite. Out of all the names you listed only Jordan was considered elite because he won championships no matter what. Coaching, teammates, injuries or anything else prevented him from elevating his team and carrying the entire organization to victory. That’s elite. I have yet to see a quarterback or any other football player do that.

I have no idea why you think this is germane to the issue of whether the label ‘elite’ is generally applied prospectively or retrospectively. Are all your posts so confused?

Agree, Dan M. has no SB but he was elite with an capital E but Eli was not and would be in that 2nd tier group.

I feel the same way on Dak, at times he looks really good as long as the cast around him are top players. He looks lost at times also, this season should tell a lot. Jerry will pay top $ no doubt and unless the D becomes a top 3 D Dak is not driving the bus to a super bowl. Stay safe.

Because elite athletes can carry the teams practically by themselves. No one you named has accomplished that feat.

That 33M is where he should be which is below Wilson's 34.

I'm starting to come to this realization too.

Its starting to become a overused term like the word "legacy" in sports. I'm over it.

In the scheme of things......if you look at careers what was the true difference in Roethlisberger, Romo, Eli and Rivers? Yet, out of this bunch probably only one would be considered "elite"and that was Roethlisberger and its because of his resume.

You get the "elite" label if you have post season success but the only quarterbacks that have post season success are the ones who actually have good teams around them.

Useless title.

Nobody (except you, it appears) has suggested that an elite QB has to be able to carry a team to a SB almost by himself. If that’s your standard then, sure, there are no elite QBs. But it’s a mock-worthy standard.

If you would have seen Staubach play..you would have seen elite.

At first he was freakish winning games late.

Then he did it week after week.

Captain Comeback.

The Cardiac Kid.

We began to see as fans the other team had no idea how to stop him.

Never seen anybody except Montana and Mahomes play like that.

Dak played like that in 2016. But he lost the touch.

It was good days for sure.
Yes indeed, those moments of pure domination as a fan are the eras you remember most, and the Staubach era was that domination feeling.
The entire rebuilding from the 1-15 season in 89, Jimmy Johnson era was a truly unbelievable build process.... I know I said process...
Except Jimmys process was a fast track.

Ok Smart Guy. What makes a quarterback elite? Because he can throw a ball 70 yards? Because he’s athletic? Because he’s football smart? What is it??

But that is a definition people use. You are "elite"if you can carry a team by yourself. Yet, no one actually does it by themselves. Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Pat Mahomes.....they are wrongfully given this accomplishment but they all have help.

How was Marino ELITE when the only thing he could do was throw the ball? Cover his receivers and it’s Sack City Baby!!! Lol

Same way Charles Barkley was Elite with the 76'ers. Just didnt have the supporting cast. Being a heels fan, even MJ could not get past Larry Bird till Scottie got there.

Now see "Elite"works a little different in the NBA. I can actually understand that. One person can have a HUGE effect on the game. Dirk Nowtizki is a prime example of that. Lebron James. Steph Curry. That same impact can't be felt in the NFL. Far too many players, coaches, etc.
