2nd tier Defensive Lineman-who do you like most?

I like DTs that are strong enough to fight off blocks. Gil Brandt says DTs should have a minimum of 26 bench press reps at the combine. Here are the DTs that achieved that threshhold.

DaVon Hamilton DL Ohio St. 6'4" 320 - 33 reps, 5.14 40 yd
Khalil Davis DL Nebraska 6'1" 308 - 32 reps, 4.75 40 yd
Justin Madubuike DL Texas A&M 6'3" 293 - 31 reps, 4.83 40 yd
Larrell Murchison DL North Carolina St. 6'2" 297 - 29 reps, 5.05 40 yd
Derrick Brown DL Auburn 6'5" 326 - 28 reps, 5.16 40 yd
McTelvin Agim DL Arkansas 6'3" 309 - 27 reps, 4.98 40 yd
Carlos Davis DL Nebraska 6'2" 313 - 27 reps, 4.82 40 yd

Kinlaw did not participate in combine drills. For reference, Maliek Collins had 25 reps and ran a 5.03 40 yd.

Others; Raekwon Davis - 24, Jordan Elliot - 24, Gallimore - 23, Davidson - 21, Fotu - 21.

This is but one measurement, but to me it is important for some positions.

Look at Khalil Davis. If he was 2 inches taller, where would he be drafted? In 2019, he had 8 sacks and 44 tackles in 11 games. In every mock I have done, he was available in the 5th round. Why not take him?

As an Illini fan I can tell you that Betiku is the real deal. He’s a load for much bigger D-linemen to handle. Makes me sad we had him for just half a season since he was injured for half our games his one season after transferring from USC.

Short arm guys like Khalil Davis have an advantage in the bench press.

Brown at 28 with 34-1/4" arms is more impressive than Davis at 32 with 31-1/2" arms.

I'm not against Khalil Davis as a late round pick but squat body short armed DTs have disappointed me more than any other category of draft prospect.

The Cowboys drafted DT Ken Bishop in the 7th round of the 2014 NFL draft. He was very strong and very quick squat body (6-0, 300) type player. He was completely dominant as a small college player. In the NFL he showed flashes but he generally just couldn't get off blocks quick enough.

Khalil Davis is somewhat opposite of what his measurable(s).

As a squat body (6-1, 308, 31-1/2" arms) with a thick lower body and 32 reps on the bench, the general expectation would be a 4-3 1tech anchor type player similar to Antwaun Woods but that's not how Davis plays.

Instead Davis has weak anchor strength but shows very good speed/quickness.

Davis is difficult to project. He might be best as a shoot the gap Marinelli style 3tech but in college he played more of an engage then shed style.

The majority of his snaps in the games I reviewed were as a 3-4 DE.
 
Josh Uche has the skillset to fill the SAM/DPR role that's been discussed by Stephen/Nolan.

He's intriguing on Day 2.

I get it but I am talking about drafting him at 179 or even 231. Bishop played at Northern Illinois and had some success. Davis plays at Nebraska and had 8 sacks in his final year. Again, I am not putting him in the same class as Madubuike or even Jordan Elliott, but as a late round pick I'd take the risk.
