Just read Dallas is showing interest in a trade for Christian Kirk.

I liked him(and I believe others here did too) in the 2018 draft. I’m only on board if the compensation is low due to the amount of WR talent in the draft.

But he would bring experience and talent to our WR core. Not to mention he fills the PR/KR need also.

Curious what others think of the possibility and what you would give up to get him. Picks? Player on the roster? Etc..https://insidethestar.com/rumor-cow...&utm_source=twitter&__twitter_impression=true

Initially I was kind of confused why either team would do it.

But then you look deeper......

With the addition of Hopkins, drafted Isabella last year, still got Larry....they could afford to get rid of Kirk. Not sure why they would but it seems like this year there would be not much for him there. So if you can get a 3rd or 4th for him from some team....makes sense. Then use that pick to get another receiver and have him for 4 years.....

From the Cowboys perspective.....allows them to nab a guy they liked just a few years ago. Wouldn't have to use a high pick on a wide receiver. Still relatively cheap. Young.

For it to make sense for the Cowboys its going to have to take some low compensation. Maybe a 4th or 5th.

Make it a 4th that can become a 3rd if he meets requirements.

Christian Lirk 40 time: 4.47

Average speed for a slot WR and punt returner. Would usually want a little faster.

4th or 5th round trade pick offer.

Not against it if he can play in the slot.
I don't see the logic for them to trade him unless they think he can't play slot or they are that impressed by the guy they drafted last year.

Of course this is just another rumor. They would probably want a 2nd and with only a few years on his contract before he looks to get paid a 2nd wouldnt be worth it to rent a slot receiver.

i dont know man,we can get serious Wr talent even in the 4th Rd in this draft and have 4 years control of the player.
Yeah, that’s what I’m wrestling with also. Although, Kirk wouldn’t be a crap shoot. He’s already proven he can play in this league. And the PR experience is a major bonus and upgrade over Tavon Austin imo.

If we were able to grab him for a 4th for example, it still wouldn’t prevent me from picking another Wr late or even after draft (thinking Cole Beasley).

We have to remember we have Compensation Picks at are disposable next year

Side note: Can someone post a Highlight vid of him.. sorry I never posted a vid, so I’m sure I’d mess it up

I don't think that type of trade would work. I assume any draft picks would be for this 2020 draft. If we are talking 2021 draft, then that type of scenario definitely comes into play.

I don't really see it. We just paid a ton for a #1 and we hit on a #2. We need help on defense more than another wide receiver.
Thats a false choice you are presenting my friend.

A team should look to upgrade their roster every chance they get. It's very possible no team is looking to trade a young cheap defensive player who fits our need. That doesn't mean you wouldnt give up a 3rd for a WR who could start at the #3 WR.

I don't think we have any needs on defense that we can confidently say a 3rd round rookie defender would come in and start for us. I could be wrong.

Just because we have Amari and Gallup doesn't mean someone like Kirk is pideon holed into the slot. What it actually means is we have three blue chip WRs who can all play anywhere, as well as one who can return kicks, punts, and run that jet sweep. I think adding Kirk for a third or fourth would be great. He'd represent an immediate upgrade over Cobb at this stage in their careers.

What I really like about him: he has great hands, toughness, and plays faster than his 40time suggest.

Seems like a great Randall Cobb replacement

Side note: he played the slot and outside at Arizona and had a slow start due to an ankle injury last year

(I figured out the vid posting, lol)

There's been some buzz here that Kirk is on the trading block.

Kind of surprised me because he's a local kid (played at powerhouse Saguaro) and his skill set seems perfect for Kingbury's offense.

That being said, he would be a decent slot WR and return guy for us. He's 23, 5'11", 200 lbs., and he has 2 years left on his deal with a 2020 cap hit of $1,015,897 and a 2021 cap hit of $1,283,845.

Seeing how we paid a 28-year old Tavon Austin $1.75M last year to be the gimmick-WR (4th WR at best) and return guy, I don''t see this as an issue, especially if he can be had for a Day 3 pick.
