Thats a false choice you are presenting my friend.

A team should look to upgrade their roster every chance they get. It's very possible no team is looking to trade a young cheap defensive player who fits our need. That doesn't mean you wouldnt give up a 3rd for a WR who could start at the #3 WR.

I don't think we have any needs on defense that we can confidently say a 3rd round rookie defender would come in and start for us. I could be wrong.
To me, a third is still a very valuable pick and who knows, even if he doesn't start right away he could be developed into a very good player at S or LB or CB or even DT.

I'm just tired of this team pouring so many valuable resources into the offensive side of the ball for, well, about as long as I can remember. We're paying Zeke and Cooper and Martin and now Dak a ton while we let Jones walk out the door. This team hasn't been any good on defense since Phillips and Parcells were here, and one reason is we keep using most of our resources on the flashy side of the ball.

There's been some buzz here that Kirk is on the trading block.

Kind of surprised me because he's a local kid (played at powerhouse Saguaro) and his skill set seems perfect for Kingbury's offense.

That being said, he would be a decent slot WR and return guy for us. He's 23, 5'11", 200 lbs., and he has 2 years left on his deal with a 2020 cap hit of $1,015,897 and a 2021 cap hit of $1,283,845.

Seeing how we paid a 28-year old Tavon Austin $1.75M last year to be the gimmick-WR (4th WR at best) and return guy, I don''t see this as an issue, especially if he can be had for a Day 3 pick.

The price to trade for a wide receiver is always bizarre to me. Randy Moss was traded for a 4th rounder IIRC while he was in his prime. DeAndre Hopkins was traded for a broken running back and a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

I’d think about trading for Kirk for a 4th and maybe next year’s 5th. That said, why do I feel like we’ll give the Cards a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him?

The one positive about Stephen's stinginess is that we have been better with trades. We only gave up 6th round picks for Austin and Quinn.

What I really like about him: he has great hands, toughness, and plays faster than his 40time suggest.

Seems like a great Randall Cobb replacement

Side note: he played the slot and outside at Arizona and had a slow start due to an ankle injury last year

(I figured out the vid posting, lol)

Yeah he has some wheels on him. Not saying he's a burner but he can burn by some guys. HE also allows for you to move Coop inside some and maybe him on the outside some.

They need to wait and see how this deep WR draft goes.

And if they do trade a pick for a WR, its needs to be a 2021 4th at most.

Its not like they need a 1 or a 2, just a slot guy. They can find a Beasley type somewhere worst case.

It would be a ***** if a guy like Hamler is sitting there in the 4th and you cant take him because you dealt the pick.

Perfect opportunity to get a 2nd round talent WR in the 4th. No need for this trade.

That’s true.

If there’s any truth to this rumor this could be a post draft deal if a WR the Cowboys like doesn’t drop to them.

Just read Dallas is showing interest in a trade for Christian Kirk.

I liked him(and I believe others here did too) in the 2018 draft. I’m only on board if the compensation is low due to the amount of WR talent in the draft.

But he would bring experience and talent to our WR core. Not to mention he fills the PR/KR need also.

Curious what others think of the possibility and what you would give up to get him. Picks? Player on the roster? Etc..

I don't see any reason the Cardinals would trade him away for a deal that would make sense for the Cowboys, especially in a deep WR draft.

Even if he is the 4th WR, he is also a punt returner and gadget player.

He started 13 of 13 games last season.

He had more catches per game than Fitzgerald.

The Cardinals TE with the most catches had 18...

Kliff Kingsbury seems more likely than most to use 4 WR sets as his base.

I don't really see it. We just paid a ton for a #1 and we hit on a #2. We need help on defense more than another wide receiver.
In my fantasy world I would say "Fine. The more the merrier.

But instead of paying all this out on Dak's behalf..

pass and just sign Dez or Tavon Austin for slot receiver, backup.?

Seems infinitely wiser and more easy to use resources on defense.

Savey.

And Jerry always gets the worst end of the deal in wide receiver trades

In today’s NFL, that’s where most of your resources should be going. I’m only concerned about acquiring more talent. Kirk is a good young player that makes you better.

Think this might be Larry Fitzgerald's final season? Play out his one year deal and then await the HoF.

@Knotamus I'd rather keep my 3rd and 4th round picks than trade for Kirk. WR class is deep. Also, I'd rather have a KJ Hill in the 3rd or 4th (or a player like that) for the next 4 years vs Kirk on a two year deal.
