Does any team that claims to have an elite quarterback need to surround him with a 1 at rb and 2 1s and a 3 at wr?

The point of having an elite quarterback is to multiply the effect of the guys around him. Not vice versa.

Still hope Lamb is awesome. He probably will be.

Troy Aikman had all kinds of talent around him like Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Jay Novacek, Rocket Ismail, Alvin Harper, etc.
Regardless what round they were drafted in, they had an abundance of talent.
Having a talented team is something to be coveted, not used as a slam against your QB.

Couldnt believe he fell to 17.

Theres no Excuses for Dak not to produce elite Numbers this Season. If he cant do it this Season he wont get a Contract.

Fantastic pick.

We are loaded now on offense and have a proper HC guiding us for once.

Bring on a heavily focused defensive side of the draft now with maybe a project C taken late and bring on the season.

You literally just defined his value lol. Aside from being an ****** stud in his own right, he’s insurance against both Amari and Gallup’s contracts.

Insurance? You don't draft a WR in the first round to be insurance, you expect him to be a starter. Cooper just got paid and Gallup will also be paid in about 3 years. Neither receiver is going anywhere. If Dallas is in a win now mode after dropping 90M on Zeke, 100M on Cooper what's the logic of drafting a W3 in the top 20? Especially when they have needs in many areas. This was a vanity pick just like when we drafted Felix Jones to be a 3rd down back.

Who's to say Lamb won't start?

Many teams start with a 3 WR set. Cobb had 55 catches for about 800 yards last season.

The number three WR position is becoming more and more important.

This boards is usually so divided.. Apologists vs Realists....Dak lovers vs Dak haters....etc.

Is there a single Cowboys fan who is not thrilled with this pick???

Raise your hand.

I'm not thrilled because it was a vanity pick. Take a moment to reflect on the fact that we just drafted our 3rd receiver using a top 20 pick. We drafted a 3rd down back in the first round back in 2008.

I don't want to hear the fact that the guy is a stud unless you can justify the volume of football he is going to be getting. He is not getting more looks than Cooper or Gallup, and Zeke gets about 50-60 catches per year or of the backfield.

The team did invest a top 20 pick on Cobb he was a free agent. How many teams draft a #3 receiver with a top 20 pick? Look at all the teams that drafted a WR last night they took a #1 or #2.

Cooper, Gallup, Lamb, Devin Smith. Now that is some really stupid speed and WR stable. LOL

Only problem is we still have the same huge holes we did before. 2nd and 3rd round is going to make this draft.
@CowboyRoy, you may not have been elated on day 1,, but you will feel better about everything after day 2 and 3,, just hang in there bro.
Deep draft, plenty of time to address the D.
Lamb was a great pick!.. and we got to punch the eagles right in the nads… :lmao2:

It's clear you don't want to like the pick. No problem. Most of us on here will enjoy the pick and enjoy watching the offense on the field.

We're going to have three scary WRs to handle. The three WR sets will be our base offense. How will teams defend this? With a nickel defense.

Zeke's gonna go off!

And to answer your question, "How many teams draft a #3 WR with a top 20 pick?" Technically it wasn't a top 20 pick (it was pick 21, I believe). But the Minnesota Vikings had Cris Carter and Jake Reed. They were two stud WRs at the time. They didn't need a WR, but took Randy Moss with pick 21. Most people thought Moss would go within the top five. Certainly he would go to Dallas at 8.

Nope....he fell. The Vikings correctly saw that Moss was too good of a talent to pass up, and took him....even though they didn't need a WR. With the three-headed monster of Carter, Moss, and Reed, the Minnesota Vikings (led by an over the hill Randall Cunningham because of an injury to Brad Johnson) went 15-1! Moss became a HOF WR.

Quick, side bar...any team ever had 3 1000 yard receivers in a single season?
The 1980 San Diego Chargers produced first 1,000-yard trio, consisting of John Jefferson, and Hall of Famers Kellen Winslow and Charlie Joiner. Their 3,762 combined yards are the highest total of any 1,000-yard trio. During this season, quarterback Dan Fouts passed for a then-record 4,715 yards under the Air Coryell system instituted by head coach Don Coryell.

The 1989 Washington Commanders produced the second 1,000-yard trio, consisting of wide receivers Art Monk, Gary Clark, and Ricky Sanders. Nicknamed "The Posse", this trio is the only trio who did not have a 4,000-yard quarterback, with two quarterbacks, Mark Rypien (3,768 yards) and Doug Williams (585 yards), needed to break the 4,000 yards passing mark (though Rypien only played 14 games of a 16-game season).

The 1995 Atlanta Falcons produced the third 1,000-yard trio, consisting of running back/wide receiver/return specialist Eric Metcalf and wide receivers Terance Mathis and Bert Emanuel. Metcalf's 104 receptions are the most by any member of a 1,000-yard trio. Quarterback Jeff George passed for 4,143 yards, the only time he passed for over 4,000 yards in his career.

The 2004 Indianapolis Colts produced the fourth 1,000-yard trio, consisting of wide receivers Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and Brandon Stokley. During this season, quarterback Peyton Manning passed for 4,557 yards and broke the season passing touchdown record of 48 touchdowns, held by Dan Marino, with 49 (which would be broken during the 2007 NFL season by Tom Brady, with 50, but then reclaimed by Manning in the 2014 NFL season). Harrison's 15 touchdowns are the most of any single receiver and the trio's 37 combined touchdowns are the most of a 1,000-yard trio.

The 2008 Arizona Cardinals produced the fifth and most recent 1,000 yard trio, consisting of wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, and Steve Breaston. Quarterback Kurt Warner's 4,583 yards were second only to Drew Brees's 5,069 passing yards (which fell 15 yards short of Dan Marino's then-record 5,084 yards). The Cardinals posted a 9-7 record, and advanced to Super Bowl XLIII, losing 27-23 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fitzgerald's 1,431 yards are the most of any member of a 1,000-yard trio. Their 262 combined receptions are the most of any 1,000-yard trio.

Same for Zeje. His ypc should be near the 5.0 mark. Since defenses can't put everyone at the line to focus on him only. If Dak has to play elite for his contract, same goes to Zeke.

100% He has had one of the best olines in football for years and still can't eclipse that, zero excuses for sure even without Fredrick this year.

Insurance? You don't draft a WR in the first round to be insurance, you expect him to be a starter. Cooper just got paid and Gallup will also be paid in about 3 years. They can let Cooper or/and Gallup go in 2 years time to save a ton of Cap Space.

Lamb is not a 3rd WR hes 10x better than Gallup already and will soon challenge Cooper for #1 WR. Cooper had a very disappointing second half of the season. If he cant clean that up Lamb is the #1 next season.

Drafting for Need always fails when u have a Top 10 Talent available at 17. You take BPA.

This Pick should also open up Spaces for Zeke/Pollard so its Win-Win.

Like the Lamb pick, I don’t love it. However, I was not at all impressed with any of the defensive players outside of Lambs teammate LB Murray at 17. I expected with Kinlaw, Henderson, and the ‘Bama WRs gone we would try to trade down a bit and snag Ruiz, which I would’ve been okay with also. I am pretty happy Lamb isn’t an eagle though.
Suspect Lamb means goodbye to Tavon Austin.
Lamb put up great numbers at OU,...but so does every QB and WR....
Lamb is very good no doubt and is listed at 6’2 but he has never seemed to be tall playing. I think he plays small and quick...as opposed to Gallup and Dez who play taller and bigger IMO. He reminds me of Jordan Lewis...feisty as heck...super competitor. We need that coming out of the JG experience.
His game is quickness, routes, and YAC. He should excel in the Beasely/Cobb role for us. I think he’s strictly a 3/slot guy and I hope we plan for him to do some KR. I presume Cedric Wilson and some other good young WRs we had in the stable are effectively relegated to forever backups now.
Day 2, love to steal one of the Ss from Minnesota or Bama, the TE from Missouri, or the LB from Wisconsin.
