This is a fun exercise and thought it might make a cool debate.

If you could bring back one past player from the Cowboys and inject him into this year's team in his prime for this season only, who would it be?

As I mulled over the question, a lot of guys came to mind. I thought about the QBs of the past and while I would love to see Aikman's surgical accuracy with this team, I don't think we gain that much improvement.

I would love to see Michael Irvin back, but WR is already a strenght.

There are a lot of great linemen in Cowboys' past, but our line is already good.

So for me it came down to four possibilities:

Charles Haley
Demarcus Ware
Darren Woodson
Deion Sanders

And I decided on Sanders. I know we added a lot to the QB room, but I think Sanders locking down one side of the field would be lot of fun to watch.

Haley makes some sense but if we are plucking the actual versions out of the timestream so to speak then don't forget Haley missed 20% of the games and was hurting in a lot of the ones he did play.

Sanders is historically the greatest player from that list and also fills a great need.

Are we assuming that the player in his prime would have the same impact in today's game that he had during his actual playing days (despite the disparity with different eras, player sizes etc..)?

If so, the group of players that immediately spring to mind for me are;

Ed Jones
Randy White
Harvey Martin
Deion Sanders

Of that group honestly i feel Deion would have the greatest impact, however just i can't.. make.. myself.. go.. there. (if my families life depended on it i probably would select him though).

Ed Jones would be my selection as his skills still translate incredibly well to the modern game (and i loved that guy).

Honorable mention would be Thomas Henderson, just because..

I'll probably go with him, too. Plus we can use him on punt returns and even as a WR if needed. Darren would be my 2nd choice from your list. IMO he's the most underrated out of them all. Since most everyone is throwing other options than what you asked for, I'm going with Troy Aikman without a doubt.
