Jerry rice ran a 4.6 40.... Austin runs a 4.3 40. Michael Irvin ran a 4.6 40. Williams ran a 4.4 40.....which would you take? tell me about how they run routes, how they get off the line, can they catch, they all run in the 4.4's like you said which is more than enough for deep balls. you don't need a 4.3 guy and those guys are rare and rarely are they good. don't forget we still have Smith and Austin on the team, both speed guys. outside of JJ Nelson how many other 4.2 guys are out there? you said every team has 4.4 guys...that's what's needed...but there is only one or 2 4.2 guy....plus it looks like the guy is already going down hill. at 161.....and 5/11"....I am not surprised

Game speed is different than timed speed. None of our guys are slow and actually play faster than they time. As the WR you can be the same speed as the CB and still get open easily if you run good routes. You know where you're going they don't. The ability to separate comes down to cutting and placement. Speed is important but 3-cone drills are a better metric to go by for WR's.

Also I saw a post a few days ago discussing the top 5 WR's of all time and their 40 times. I think all of them were in the 4.4-4.6 range. Anyone else see that that can verify?

Route running over speed...every time. Give me a guy that gets open and has good hands. Look at Witten for most of his career. While not slow out of college, his was never a game of speed. All Witten did was get open.

Now, we have collected what looks to be an amazing group of receivers and someone thinks we collected the wrong guys. Would you really trade Gallup for JJ Nelson? If so, you should apply for the Eagles GM job.

I agree that we need more of a speed element somewhere.

This is why you see guys who perform in the underwear olympics sometimes get drafted over other players with superior talent only to see them fail.

John Ross III
Donte Stallworth
Chris Johnson
Rondell Montez
Dri Archer
Jerome Mathis
Marquis Goodwin
Stanford Routt
Jalen Myric
JJ Nelson
DeMarcus Van Dyke
Jacoby Ford

All of those players were speed demons from the Combine.
One or two MIGHT be a future HOF but that is a big Might.

The majority of them turned out to be either complete nobodies or a slight blip on the radar.

Straight line speed looks good on paper but for the most part does not beat out playing speed and talent.

Most CBs in the league run 4.4 minimum.

According to "Topher Doll (February 12, 2013). "Some Clarification is in Order: Average Speed by Position". MileHighReport.com. Archived from the original on November 11, 2018"

the average speed of an NFL CB is 4.48 in the 40. The average WR is 4.48.

Show me where you got the 4.4 minimum for an NFL CB.

Another option is to trade Gallup who really is a #3 with CD in the building and the front office shouldn’t overpay for a consistent ball dropping #3 receiver.

It's hilarious how Gallup is suddenly trash since draft night. :muttley:

79 catches, 1189 yards, 74 ypg, 15 ypc, 8 TDs, 4 drops
66 catches, 1107 yards, 79 ypg, 16 ypc, 6 TDs, 6 drops

One of those guys just got $100 million for 5 years with $60 million guaranteed. The other is Michael Gallup.

As for CeeDee, the guy hasn't taken a lap at the Star yet and some of you already have him in the Ring of Honor.

Cooper 4.42 (83% tile at combine for WRs)
Gallup 4.51 (53% tile at combine for WRs)
Lamb 4.5 (55% tile at combine for WRs)

We're good. I'm not saying we wouldn't be better off with a guy who runs a 4.4 flat, but we have more than enough speed to be dangerous.
And even with 4.5 speed, Gallup is becoming a feared deep ball WR

Dallas has accumulated too many WRs that are lesser clone of each other and really do not compliment the players on the roster fully.

This offense needs true speed and right now just about every team has WRs that runS 4.4 NFL WRs. Dallas should acquire someone like J.J Nelson 4.2 forty time that can blow the top off defense consistently.

Everyone is a JAG except Dak, we get it, come on did you forget the mess a few years ago when there was real JAG's playing WR, please stop with the stupid. If CeeDee is what most think this can be the greatest group of WRs ever to wear the star. Just stop.

I’m ok with what we have but Ted Guinn would have been a nice option for a speed and return guy. He’s been pretty solid.

Bears just scooped him up though on a 1 year deal.
