Dalton, he's not elite but he's much better than Dak.
Now rescind the Tag and pick up Griffin DE and whatever stud defensive Fa is still out there.
Dalton will be good for at least 2-3 years and in that time span develop our rook QB or move up in the draft and get a QB.
Paying Dak 30 million Tag cash is a total waste of Cap funds!
I bet you smoke a ton of pot.

I would have drafted Hurts in the second round just gone. Kept and paid Byron Jones. A lockdown CB is rare these days with the rules in favour of the offense yet he was excellent. We might have seen more interceptions under this defensive scheme as well. I would bring in Clowney. I understand all of the reservations about him, injuries, isn't a sack leader etc but he's a game wrecker - and with the ability to do it in any game. He's the type of guy that could make a couple of key plays in play off games and that's invaluable. The Chiefs brought in Frank Clark and the 49ers Dee Ford. The latter didn't have a great impact but Clark played well throughout the post season (5 sacks in 3 games) after both battled injuries. The intent from both teams was to win games and the SB. We would also have money for a safety - I think Randall would have been a good acquisition.

Play Dalton this season for $3 million. Hurts learns from him for a year and starts as our QB in 2021. Long term cap management. In this offense I think the actual production at QB between Prescott, Dalton and Hurts would be similar. Yet one of them would cost $30-35 million more a season.

But at this point in the year it's all too late. We have missed the boat.

Um... That isn't how it works. If you rescind the tag, he is IMMEDIATELY a FA. You get no draft picks unless you are counting the Comp pick. But we are already past the date for which Comp picks are calculated, meaning if you rescind the tag, we get NOTHING.

Where the Cowboys messed up, in my opinion, was using the EXCLUSIVE tag. If they had used the non-exclusive tag, then his agent could have shopped him around the league and found his true worth. If he signed an offer sheet from another team, we could either match or get the 2 first round picks. Again, this is IF we had applied the non-exclusive tag.
Thanks for info. Better than google.:)

Ok, I'll bite. In which areas, and in what ways, is Dalton so much better than Dak? Asking for a friend. Also, you want to spend the money on a Defensive rental or two, who haven't been picked up by any other team yet because they are wanting too much, then give up draft capital to try and find a QB? All while Dalton steers the ship for 2-3 years? Wow... What a plan.
Don’t pay Dak.

Let Dak play on the tag and see how he and the team does with a better coaching staff.
If the same result happens (can't get to NFCCG or worse) then next year place the "non-exclusive" tag on him instead.
Take the best trade offer (hopefully someone wants Dak badly before the draft) and use that ammo to move up and grab a QB in the 1st round.
Now you have a QB on a rookie deal again, except even better because it will be a 5 year deal not 4 and it's good until 2026.
He doesn't have to start right away if we keep Dalton (home is in Texas so he's not going anywhere IMO) and so just let McCarthy ease him into games as a rookie.
Let him develop and keep building the team through the draft and with much better FA's, since Stephen will have more money to use with no giant Dak contract on the cap.

So, how's that plan work for you guys?

:)

Just curious, for the “Don’t pay Dak” crowd what’s your solution for QB. This year and for the immediate short term. Play Dak on tag? Dalton? Trade? If so who?
1) Walk down the yellow brick road (Suspend any sense of reality. You're no longer an informed NFL fan. You're a dreamer)
2) Observe a sparkly, shiny bush over to the side. It has sprinkles, rainbows and brightly colored little fruits on it! (This is the NFL Draft)
3) Pick the "Magic Franchise QB Berry" (These are literally everywhere - You can probably wait until the 7th round if you want. I hear "The Nucci" is the next Mahomes and that's where we found him
4) Win Superbowl in 2021

Interesting post, especially the w/l records over the years. Last year was the most troubling for me, especially given the talent on offense. His mechanics improved, but didn't reflect in the w/l column. Troubling.

sounds like he's "glitching" out. He can't even be average in games against good defenses, but the old excuses, the offensive line, the special teams, the defense, or whatever. oh hum

Don’t pay Dak

jerry has the upper hand, dak either signs the tag or sits, or takes what jerry gives him. it will be funny if Dak has to take jerry's offer. lmao

You give Dak two years of franchise tags.
He refuses to play then you move on.

No one is against paying Dak. That's only what the jock sniffers say.
We don't want to bust the cap paying a mid tier QB what he is asking for.

You pay him over 13% of your cap and kiss any shot of a Super Bowl goodbye

This!!! Now post this in ever Dak thread. I get so tired of the, “why do you care so much about Jerry Jones’ money” argument. Anyone who doesn’t care about the salary cap doesn’t understand the NFL.

I would franchise Dak this year and probable next year, he is your bridge to a new quarterback. They drafted DiNucci, he’s a project but let’s see how he evolves over two years. Let’s see if any other QBs become available via trade or free agency.

Dalton this season and next season . Develop back ups and draft a future QB. Plenty will be availaben.
Dalton is mature , very accurate and is a gamer . Cincinnati was never gonna be a great franchise . Give dalton a chance .
