Every starting QB has a Honeymoon period?

You can definitely add extra honey to that moon with Dak's rookie season when he:

1. Set the NFL record for most pass attempts before his first INT

2. Led the team to a 13-3 season.

3. Seemingly came out of nowhere as the 3rd team QB and a 4th round rookie draft pick

4. Set the all time NFL rookie record for passer rating, completion percentage and interception percentage.

5. Was selected as the 2016 Rookie of the Year

6. Had five 4th quarter come from behind victories and 5 game winning drives

7. In his first ever playoff start he went toe to to with Aaron Rodgers. He passed for over 300 yards with 3 TD's, a passer rating of 103.2, overcoming an 18 point deficit to pull within a tie with 35 seconds left in the game.

Dak wasn't just the new young guy. Dak wasn't a player that gave us hope for the future. There was no honeymoon, he got thrown right out there and treated like a 10 year veteran in terms of expectation. Any other quarterback would have failed miserably. Dak broke the records previously set by QBs drafted #1 overall.

You cannot find a rookie QB performance like that if you looked back at 100 years of football.

Dak lost his shine?

Last season he was one single yard short of Tony Romo's record for most passing yards in a season. Tony Romo was 32. Dak is 26.

Last season he was 4th place for most TD's in a season. All three places above him are Tony when he was in his 30's.

Dak Prescotts shine can't be coming off because he's just starting the polish,
This is a really good post. I appreciate the effort.

Here is a thought, how many people were talking poorly of Dak in 2016 ?????
How many " haters" were posting here?? ( haters = anyone who wants another qb or thinks dak isnt good enough,
or thinks he is good but not worth the money he is demanding.)
None I would guess, this all took the last 3 years to develop and then add in the whole longest contract debate ever, and dak wanting
to be top salary at point of signing, and yeah we have some people that are saying dont sign him.

It is NOT like people have been against dak since day 1.
Same thing for elliot back in 16, but this is years later and both have been meh for last 3 years.
They have good stats, but that has not translated to much season wise or in playoffs the last 3 years.

There are valid reasons for people to think dak is not the right guy, especially now that his pay will
go up what 35 times what he was making?

Again my point is this didnt happen overnight, and didnt really start until late into 2017.
Some slid back in 2018, but then after a 8-8 season and the last phil game , the whole
not liking dak started up in earnest, and then this contract thing has made it snowball.

This article show the problems Dak had in 2016.

https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/201...-dak-prescott-has-a-lot-of-growing-left-to-do

I think a lot of people recognized Dak was a young player who needed to grow.

But now, those same people who saw Dak's limitations as a rookie, can now read that article and state he hasn't progressed at all since his rookie season as all the same problems that are listed in that article are present still today.

And that clearly shows Dak isn't worth his contract demands.

That's not hate, that's just reality.

I can't say I really saw much of this. Yes, there were fans who wanted Romo to start when he was healthy but if we are fair about it, Romo was far and away better, at the time.
I was one and I admit it. I thought it was a stupid organizational decision--well, primarily a decision by Garrett, who I grew more and more to see as a weasel who wanted to save his hide after I initially gave him a chance--and I believe most teams with real head coaches and GMs in the league would've thought so as well. I still hold on to the belief that there is no way Bellicheat would have played Dak over Romo when Romo came back healthy. Stupid organizations make decisions based on riding a winning streak. Smart ones make them by putting their best players on the field. It was never about "hating" on Dak and not thinking he did an admirable job as a rookie for an injured Romo. It was about respect and giving the team an even better opportunity to win with the obviously better QB.

I have to disagree. Some on here didn't like Dak from the beginning and got ultra salty even Romo was "healthy" and sat on the bench as a backup
Exactly this. I didn’t think Dak was bad per se, but I thought Romo gave us the best chance to make a run in the playoffs. Not even Big Ben was ready for the super bowl push during his rookie year.

I am far more favorable of Dak now. A lot of reasons for that. Biggest question is how much, but even Derek Carr was the highest player ever for a period. So I’ve just let it go mainly because we can win with Dak.

If Dak isn’t signed long term by the July deadline though, everyone should be ready for Dak not to be here long term. No reason for Dak to hold out, play on the tag, and sign long term next year when length of contract will even be more ominous given what’s coming down the pike with TV contacts and such.

O man ! I woke up today thinking it was 1980 , and now you go and ruin it!!!

lol, just saying that in 2019 he had an opportunity to show everyone his worth. Don't really care what he did 4 seasons ago before defenses had film on him. I don't hate the guy, I just don't see him worth a huge contract. Sad that some will view that as hate on these forums. But that's not the case. It's an organization having to make a tough decision. IMO play him on the tag this year IF there's even a season.

Strongly disagree, he would be out of the league and that goes for a lot of guys. Cody Kessler actually played pretty well, and even Kizer showed promise at times, but if you start your career on a team that goes 1-31 then you are going to be part of the house cleaning.
The only thing Dak has shown is that he can stand behind All-Pros and throw to wide open guys. He would have been out of the league long ago anywhere else, but especially Cleveland.
There is some truth to what you say, and it applys to other players as well. Some get lucky some dont.
Joe Montana and Brady, had they been drafted by another bad team, they might never had made it in the nfl.

Dak was extremely lucky with kellen , then Tony getting hurt, and he got to start for the cowboys, who were a very good team.
Had Tony stayed healthy , and played 2-3 more years Dak would have just been some guy we see in PS or even wound up on Practice squad,
and then another team where he is stuck as a bkup never playing.

He was very lucky, but he made the most of his opportunity, so I give him credit for that.

that is about how I see it.
I think jones boys actually want to commit to him for 5 years, and the smart thing is play him on tag this season with MM and see what he looks like.
reevaluate after the season.

Dum-dums in our fanbase wanted to bench him for Cooper Rush as early as 2017. Long before contract strife and anti-labor biases ever entered into the picture to explain away their hate for him.

And people talked plenty of trash about how terrible they'd already made up their mind Dak was in 2016. Literally the only thing that kept half a lid on it was the fact that his backup that season was Mark Sanchez.

Sad to say the one year he got the least irrational hate being the year when his backup was someone named Sanchez probably isn't a coincidence. The second his backup started being someone more palatable to the worst of our fanbase, they were absolutely ready to throw him away for a trash backup-caliber player.

It's very possible if no contract is agreed to by July 15th then Dak might not be a Cowboy going forward. History shows that

Hey, I'm with you on wanting Romo getting his job back. I think with Zeke and that line anything was possible. I do think the defense would have kept us from any chance of winning it all.

It's all moot now, but I will always wonder what might have been. The only reason they gave Tony only one series against the Eagles was because he looked so good. Who ever heard of pulling you back up QB for the 3rd? They did that because they didn't want Tony to light it up and have the media to deal with.
That is exactly what I thought lol, at the time I could not believe they pulled tony out.
I then thought well maybe they are going to start him in playoffs, but we found out later it wasnt that .

I bet GB and MM were ecstatic when they heard it would be dak not romo starting against them in that playoff game.
That was what they were hoping for , and of course JG and the jones boys gave them exactly what they wanted lol.

Dak beat winning teams and led fourth quarter comebacks in 2016, while being paid $1m

2019, not so much and is asking for $35m+ a year
I’m glad you posted this. We spoke before. But now I realize it was over time that you realized he wasn’t the quarterback you thought he was. That’s cool I get it. See I think he still is I think they were too many other factors. I thought last season we would see the real Prescott. And then Garrett went South. Along with special teams. It’s going to take another season under the new coach for me I guess

Dak isn’t Mahomes. He isn’t Russell Wilson. He is better than a lot of other QBs though. People need get over the fact that he isn’t perfect.

That said the contract negotiations are causing his supporters to question signing him long term. I have been a big Dak guy since the beginning. I don’t know what to believe on the contract but it is getting ridiculous.
In my opinion I think he’s better than Mahomes. In so many ways. Yeah I know people think I’m crazy. I think Mahomes is a bad quarterback. Mr. hail Mary another Aaron Rodgers. Throw your receivers under the bus quarterback. Yes I don’t like him so. I’d rather have Prescott

I am not sure what to say about this. The old guard of Rodgers, Brady and Brees are moving on. It’s Mahomes’ league now. That guy is great. Tough. Can run a little. Makes all the throws. Big time arm strength. I think he has better make up than Rodgers. I like Dak but no way is he in Mahomes category. Few are.

I have neuropathy from the military. I use speak and text. I edited the post. Because I realize Google put the word black in there. That was a mistake on their part I apologize. I Was startled when I saw it

I thought I could edit it before anyone got a chance to read it. One more time I have neuropathy nerve damage military. Most people on here know that about me. So they cut me slack sometimes. And my pronunciation miss words. They know I rely on speak and text. Again I apologize for Google. Using the word black. It’s Mahomes league because the media put it that way. They wanted another Aaron Rodgers media lover boy. Terry Bradshaw and I both hope he lost that Super Bowl. As much as I didn’t want San Francisco to win. Mahomes suck in that game bad. He pulled it out with the five Hail Marys yes 5 two connected. They should’ve gave the MVP to the wide receiver. I think he’s so overrated. He’s on a great team
