I don't think he makes the roster or Joe Jackson. Possibly Armstrong is out as well.

I have Anae and Carter making it over them guys. Add in Lawrence, Smith, Gregory and Crawford....... DE is loaded with numbers

Carter w/ a 4.86 forty. What makes you think he makes the team?

At 6'5" and 256 (4.85 40), Jelks has the size to play outside and inside. If he gets bigger, stronger and quicker, plus improve on his technique and become more aggressive, he has a chance to make this team. Similar build and size as the Dolphins Jason Taylor.

Jelks should be afforded an opportunity to compete with the rest of the potential starters at the DE spot for the Cowboys. He still ranks as somewhat of an unproven commodity. There will be a fair number of candidates to vie for a starting role in TC. He'll very likely have a good opportunity to compete for a starting role, just like several others. As always, competition is the key element to success in the NFL. May the best man win!

Who? Never heard of him. But I'll take him over a few others without even seeing what he can do. It's a no lose situation.

I agree except I think Carter is out. Since they will keep 10 most likely.

40 times isn't everything. Go look at the 40 times with guys on the team already.
Absolutely. However, not sure you're going to find DE's around his size who succeed running 4.86's.

Maybe you're thinking he'll pack on a bit of weight and switch to DT?

I think it's very possible to keep 11 now that the roster is 55 and not 53.
It appears though that they would have to release players to 53 and then once they sign their practice squad they can activate two for the 55.

No, watch his tape. I have him as a pass rushing DE. Look at what Anae ran or Jelks who many are saying in this thread is going to step up and make the team. 40 times don't mean jack especially for lineman. Remember what everybody said about Frederick after his 40 time.

I watch tape and hold that as more weight then a silly 40 time in underwear.

I will go back in read because the way I understood it's the practice squad guys you take to game day doesn't count towards the 55/53 man roster...... however, I could just have misunderstood.

Of course. However, the Frederick 40 time is irrelevant, as that position only requires phone booth quickness, bad comparison.

Mostly DE's who are effective w/ poor 40's are 6-6 300 pounders. JJ Watt, Calais Campbell, Buckner, Armstead, guys like that. I'm simply not aware of any 4.86 guys around his size who are effective. Do you know any?
