Do you think he will have the same impact his rookie year..

Tough comparison. Jones played mostly S and matched up with TEs, while Diggs presumably will be playing boundary CB. I believe Diggs has the tougher task as a rookie, assuming he cracks the top 3.

Byron jones will be missed. it is just the way the cap is setup can not pay all of your players and the way corners get paid in free agency it is just to much for cowboys.

Diggs should have it a bit more easier to break in to the NFL than Jones who former coaching regime
" flexed " all over the place as he was forced into learning starting CB, nickel-slot and
safety in his early years instead of having to learn and master one lone position into the league.

Diggs also played top competition and teams in college, in arguably the toughest competition in NCAA
and he appears to have more adept ball skills than what Jones presented.

The big difference is clear that Byron had phenomenal top physical athleticism (4.3 speed, world class jumping ability, etc) while Trevor Diggs has average physical athleticism, but seems to have superior
ball hawk skills and hands/knack for turnovers and INTs.

If Diggs had half of the superior pure athleticism as Jones did, he likely would have been a definite top 5 to 8 overall player in this past draft. Not having ideal 40 time recovery speed was the likely reason why Diggs fell
into the 2nd round and right into Cowboys lap.

Besides ball hawk skills that change momentum and courses of the game, you also hope to get a play maker
and coverage CB that plays a great deal faster than what he times.

And its not out of the question either. CB Richard Sherman reportedly only had a 4.58 timed 40 prior
to his NFL draft period.

As a 2nd round pick with his collegiate accolades, i'd strongly like to see Diggs at least
within the starting three CB sets. (Brown, Diggs, Awuzie ?) during his rookie year.
I really just dunno where Worley, Lewis or 4th rounder Reggie Robinson fits in per depth chart or roles ?

Diggs is one of the new reasons why i can feel excited about the future of the defense.
I'd like to believe he'll be a ball hawking Richard Sherman type gamer.

Just as i'd like to believe, we will have the proper coaches to teach and scheme them to the
best of their abilities. Just like Byron Jones the wrong type of coaches can place these players
a set back for years to come.

Everything on Diggs' athleticism is a guess since he didn't work out at the combine or individual workouts.

-Diggs may not have that elite, long speed, but he has serious length for the position. Even when he gets beat, that length bails him out. He also has a knack of knowing when to turn and look for the football. His hands might be one of his biggest strengths as he was a former top recruit WR.

-Where Diggs has to improve is his technique and footwork, which are a total mess. Keep in mind he has only started to play the CB position and needs refinement in his game. Pre-draft many view him as a high character Talib, who was a quality corner for sometime in this league.

he will replace BJ no problem, hopefully with a little more ball skills..heck it took 3 years for BJ to even get where he got, im betting Diggs gets it quicker..

CB Trevon Diggs Looks Seasoned In Private Workouts

When the Dallas Cowboys lost Byron Jones to the Miami Dolphins is free agency it catapulted the cornerback position to the top of their needs when the NFL Draft came about in April. After stealing Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb at 17 in the first round, they snagged another stud in Cornerback Trevon Diggs at 51, a player some had mocked to the Cowboys in the first round.

In the video below, Diggs is getting in work with trainer J. Hicks, a footwork/movement specialist. Diggs does a great job with his quick feet and looks fluid in his speed turns, which is very important when defending small and shifty receivers.

Probably starts. Reportedly they graded him as a first rounder. You start first rounders, and we've shown little faith in the guys we have in their contract years.

Diggs is the future. The future starts now.

The Cowboys CB's are going to surprise this year. The change in coaching alone will make an impact and an improved pass rush won't hurt either.

Run defense will be top notch so plenty of 2nd and 3rd and long. Pass rush is definitely improved. Pressure scheme will help there. And the team will be playing with more leads this year.

But I do fear that the high risk scheme of Nolan will leave is vulnerable to the big play. And certainly with a bigger lead teams will be wining it against us.

Actually he was one of the most underrated Cowboys players by fans on this board.

He was a bust at safety for 3 years because he had no 6th sense or anticipation whatsoever.

They finally played him at corner where all he had to do was mirror a guy and he was good at it. But he still had no 6th sense and couldn't pick the ball off to save his life.

If anything, he was probably over valued overall. He is like Quinn. One dimensional player.

Diggs is a REAL prospect at CB from a big school. BJ was a project athlete. Guy had little to no football 6th sense whatsoever.
I'm excited to watch him, boss!
I like your stamp of approval.
