You have a source for that, or is that a baseless claim?
I come in here with stats and links, where's yours to prove all he does is cover 5 yard routes?

But it's funny to see you move the goalposts right away.
First, he couldn't cover, and now it's "easy" to cover 5 yard dump offs.

"Adams does it all on the Jets' defense. In 2019 alone, he played 75 or more snaps at edge defender, in the box, in the slot and deep at free safety, and he did it all well. Adams has earned grades of 75.0 or higher as a run defender, tackler, pass-rusher and coverage defender in each of the past two seasons — at times even serving as the Jets' best edge rusher."

He plays in more positions than just a box safety, and when he's there he's a legit playmaker.

Adams.gif

In the last two seasons, Adams has played 889 snaps in the box (42.7%), 578 snaps at free safety (27.8%), 303 snaps in the slot (14.5%), 234 snaps on the line of scrimmage (11.2%) and 74 snaps at outside cornerback (3.5%), grading well at each spot.

I mean, look at that 5 yard dumpoff coverage.

Thank you for that effort.

I just really cant get over the "safeties don't matter" comments.

Theres players who make plays and players that dont. We have collected way too many of the latter.

The first video isn’t fair. All defenses confuse Dak. He’s weak between the ears.

The funny thing to me is I'm not fully on the get Adams at all cost bandwagon but there are some baseless claims being thrown around in this forum to discredit Adams for some reason.

But, the guy is a legit playmaker and does have the vision in multiple coverages to make attempts at a pass breakup. That's a foreign concept here.
And when he is a box safety, he can disguise himself to look like man coverage and time the blitz just right, unfortunately as shown in the Dak gif.
When Nolan was in Miami, he had creative blitz schemes and had a safety in Yeremiah Bell who could handle those requests.
With Adams, he would be the ideal safety to have for Nolan and his aggressive at times blitzes. Cause not only can he cover, he can time his blitzes just right at times.
Gregg Williams had to use Adams more in the box/blitz last year cause the Jets couldn't get pressure with a 4 man rush.
It wasn't due to Adams only being a box safety, but he was the catalyst for that defense being turned around in the second half of the season.

All the way to all those playoff wins and SBs. Let’s get a starter. Dak’s holding us back. Let another team pay for his mediocrity.
You mean that 1 playoff win? 1 less than Romo? In a quarter of the time. Ya. The only thing mediocre here is our fan base. Dak was hamstrung by horrible coaching for 4 years and still had success. I can’t wait until after this season after having a legitimate coaching staff in place and Dak shows you and all of the people who are already writing him off that you were buffoons for saying he will never succeed. It’s going to be a good day.

MM needs to convince Jerry to trade Dak for Adams. An even trade nothing more and nothing less. The Cowboys will be in excellent shape with Dalton. If you compare between Dak and Adams. Who is demanding a ridiculous pay raise and has become very arrogant and very self centered? Dak.

I will take Adams in a heart beat before I take Dak. Only time will tell what exactly is going to happen. July 15th is around the corner.

Remember, it's been proven a backup QB can win a Superbowl & become legends.
I am concerned that Jerry will be seduced with the prospect of adding a shiney new "piece" to the Cowboy's off-season puzzle. Regardless how good Adams is, I would hate any trade involving the Cowboy's 2021 first round pick... I could easily see the team using that pick for a QB next year.

You offer an interesting solution - trade Dak straight up for Adams. While I would love to see Dak lead this team for several more years, I have grown increasingly weary of the contract drama. Now that he is signed to the tag, maybe Jerry should dangle Dak as trade bait? Won't happen, I know

Adams wants some Jerry bucks. He wants some early retirement. Unless the culture is better, this will be a bad move. Too cushy and comfy is never a good thing in Football.

Adams would turn that back end into something special and put the defense on the map.

But its all about price.

You mean you in your dreams you see them using it on a QB.

Probably the least likely scenario out there for our first round pick next year.

A Safety for a QB that's expecting to make +35M a season?

Hey, a man can dream... Four months ago, who would have imagined signing Dalton and drafting Lamb?

It's now possible, but who would take that bait and give us a 1st round pick for Dak at this point?
If a team wanted Dak and that trade actually happened, that could be the extra 1st round pick for getting Adams in a separate trade.
Naturally, you could just forget Adams altogether (at least until next year) and use that extra pick to move up in the 2021 draft for another QB.
With the Dalton signing it's a possible scenario, but a QB trade would have to happen soon before training camps get under way IMO.
Unlikely this happens, but it's fun to think about especially with a new coaching staff in town.

Jamal Adams
In 2018, he was targeted 60 times, allowing 33 completions, or 55% catch rate.
In 2019, he was targeted 38 times, allowing 21 completions, or 55.3% catch rate.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WoodXa00.htm
Xavier Woods:
In 2018, he was targeted 40 times, allowing 24 completions, or 60% catch rate.
In 2019, he was targeted 33 times, allowing 24 completions, or 72.7% catch rate.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/J/JackEd01.htm
Ed Jackson : Highest paid safety per AAV)
In 2018, he was targeted 54 times, allowing 27 completions, or 50% catch rate.
In 2019, he was targeted 43 times, allowing 23 completions, or 53.5% catch rate.

Now, I haven't watched him a lot, outside of 3 games last year, but he does seem to be quite good in coverage, when looking at it stat wise. A lot of variables come into play, but his coverage % is close to Jackson.
Plus, he is on a team with bad players around him. On this team, with "better" players, he should flourish.

The comments that discuss a player's intelligence always make me cringe, and unfortunately are mostly applied to certain players. I really wish this criticism would stop being used and simply say what it is that you think they are not good at. For example, if you think he is not a good quarterback because he can't read defenses (which you have no proof anyway), just say that instead of calling a player "dumb", "stupid" or any other description to suggest that they are of low intelligence.

A big part of the problem for Adams is that the Jets are the ones empowered to make trades. What Adams is doing may likely make the Jets all the more determined to avoid it, in favor of making such a trade with another team. I suspect they're jealous of the Cowboys for being Adams' preference! ;)

Not with Garrett at the helm. Dalton was a great pickup as was lamb. Zuerline was another great pickup I never would have imagined under Howdy Doody.

Me thinks you are preaching to the choir.

Jerrah has decided Dak is his new Romo.

He is following the same moves he did with Romo.

This is not going to change.

What I do like is Jerrah getting a backup who has a chance to win if Dak is out for any reason.

And his drafting got almost mystical here in 2020.
