No, not really.

For starters, Mahomes 10 year extension makes it 12 years.
Just using standard escalators puts Mahomes in the 35 range to start.....and he is way better than Dak

The new deal and new money is for the additional 10 years. Averaging in the existing 2 years and money doesn’t change that.

well, we have a QB that plays with ***** squirt guns and gets beat down in Panama. Mahomes sucks, he's just a good guy who values team.

Sure or franchise him for 2 years. If I’m not mistaken, you weren’t a fan of Romo. You wanted to cut bait for a long time. Why are sold on Dak? He’s 1-2 in the playoffs. QB contracts can break an organization. No way would I pay him anything like Mahomes. Would I pay what Wentz, Goff got, sure.
Romo was a wimp and it showed in the play offs. He was coached by 3 coaches including a HOF coach (Super Bowl winning Coach) and a future defensive HOF coach (Super Bowl winning coach). That just wasn't enough for his long meaningless career.
So who do you think we get that will take us to the SB in the draft, and will we have to lose all of our games to get the #1 pick? And if we did procure said number one pick, how do you know we'll win with him? How do you know he's a team player or not injury prone? And if he doesn't work out, then what? We start over again? And by then I'll be 60 years old, 35 years removed from a Super Bowl title? Yeah, your plan is genius.

Lol yeah, Mahomes sacrificed so much to sign a contract extension that can pay half a billion dollars. It’s heartbreaking to think about the hardships he agreed to endure for his team.

Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) Tweeted:
Chiefs and QB Patrick Mahomes have reached agreement on a 10-year -- 10-year! -- contract extension that ties him to Kansas City through the 2031 season, league sources tell ESPN.

D
ak May or may not be happy about this. 10 years gives a team a lot of flexibility though

Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) Tweeted:
Patrick Mahomes had two years remaining on his contract, and he and the Chiefs are adding on 10 more, making it a a new 12-year contract in total.

if he starts 7-8 more seasons, He will be beating the odds.

it’s all house money for the owner.

It makes perfect sense as to why he would do that (if he indeed did ask for that). You simply are ignoring the benefits to Dak if he signed a 5 year deal with a huge payday in that 5th year.

It gives him all the power. 1) He either collects a huge cash payment in 2024 in excess of $45MM, with a new signing bonus coming the following year, 2) Dallas is forced to renegotiate that 5th year because the cap hit would be too big and therefore, he'd get what he wanted all along - a new contract after 4 years 3) Dallas just cuts him after 4, which again gives him what he wants, FA after 4 years.

He's simply looking to leverage the Cowboys here. He's making that 5th year so unpalatable for them that they hopefully cave and give him the 4 year contract he wants. I am not sure how you aren't getting this.

Which would make sense if no one in Dak's camp had ever negotiated a contract before in their lives which is not the case.

You seem to ignore that PLAYING on the 5th year is an option. What that would mean is a terrible year for Dak because they would have to let talent go. That means going into FA on a down year with lower value. You do not make an offer that makes you unappealing to the people you are negotiating with, unappealing to the fanbase of whom you will be playing for the next several years, and puts you over a barrel if they call your bluff and make no mistake everything you outlined highlights why it is a bluff. It is an obvious and stupid bluff. No reputable agency would put themselves in that situation. So that explanation is sort of out.

There is a reason it has never been done before in NFL history. So basically there are two arguments: either they are trying an obvious bluff that has never been tried before in the history of the NFL OR the Cowboy's are putting out misinformation which is something teams have been doing for as long as I have been alive. ONE of those is drastically more likely than the other.

I’m sorry, but no man who plays a sport is worth half a billion dollars. I don’t care if he sees that amount of money or not, it’s just ridiculous.

And for all those “it’s the market” guys on here, save your breath.
Well I am thinking, that mahomes should have asked to be made part owner of the team or no deal lol.
he would make more over 10 years if he were part owner, and it would not be public knowledge of how much he does make.

Only mahomes is good enough to ask to be part owner, so really he messed up making only half a billion dollars for 10 years.
As part owner, he could have made 100 mil a year easy.

edit
I will add that if total is 503 mil, then it is 50 mil a year avg.
so is that the new market price?????? :lmao:

Wonder if KC fans are freaking out. You know saying they will not be able to surround him with talent. Like provide him a defense or ST”s.
His talent can only carry the offense so far.
He now has a target on his back from all the defenses. Let’s see how he handles it.
Probably pretty good for a while, but for how long can the team stay in tact.

I mean our own fans use this about Dak, not being able to get good players if he signed even for $35 million. So why not Mahomes. It is still a team game.

#1 reason Dak want a shorter contract. Dip back in the market once Mahomes and Jackson inflate the market.

Mahomes should have just asked to play for free and given full team ownership in 2031.

He should have hired me for his agent lol.

I love my team. I've been a fan of Dak since his college days but Dak is NOT Mahomes. Mahomes is a game changer. Did you watch the Superbowl last year? for 31/2 qtrs they held him in check and then you could just see the switch flip and Mahomes said, "enough is enough". And then he proceeded to shred the 49's defense. Dak has never been that good. Not on his best day. I will root for Dak until he is no longer a Cowboy but anyone comparing him to Mahomes is smoking crack.

My post clearly wasn't advocating Dak getting paid as much as Mahomes and if you think Mahomes deal doesn't effect the majority of QB deals, then I don't know what to say

mama mia!! guessed 300 million in guaranteed money and i was way off.
Says over $400 million in guaranteed mechanisms. Basically if he’s on the roster he’s getting laid crazy doe. Plus they can’t trade him so they’d have to release him. Sounds like a good deal for Mahomes. Way more money than what a guy like Brady was getting.

He had Parcells for what one year that he started. Wade Phillips as a HC (seriously) and you forgot Garrett. Anyway...
When you have no money for other positions, your plan is genius. You are dealing with a lot of speculations as well. Teams have won a SB without a 1st Round QB.
Again, I didn’t say I didn’t want him to a long term contract, just not $40 mil a season. But at the end of the day, he’s also not irreplaceable. Using your prior logic about Romo, he better do something the next two years or we would have wasted time with Dak too.
