First, there was celebrity. Yay Emily Ratajkowski! Then movie genre. Yay Action Adventure! The dawn of a new tournament begins.

Here's the process for any newcomers. First, we toss around ideas for a new contest. Second, we identify the most popular ideas and poll interested members which idea should be used. Third, members are asked to submit ballots, for which they nominate their favorite choices based on the idea. The ballots are formatted as shown below:

Members lists their 32 choices from best-to-worst, with each nominee having a value beginning at 32 points and ending with 1 point. Fourth, After a preset period, all members' ballots are tallied like the example below:

Nominees are assigned specific seeds according to the amount of points each receive. Tiebreakers are used whenever two or more nominees receive the exact same number of points. Finally, a series of sticky threads containing polls for nominees across several rounds determines which nominee is the 'best of the best'. An example of tournament seeding is shown below:

That is the basics pretty much. So post your topic ideas here. Who knows? Your favorite idea may soon host the next CowboysZone Tournament!

Artists/Bands of the eras 50's-20, yeah, I know, me and the damned /'s almost caused a revolt but we'd waste time arguing over whether that's a group or not.

Songs of an era, same as above without the riot inducing /

Albums of an era, same as above

Movie franchises, minimum of 3 films, all genre

Best role by an actor. actress, both, that's why I left off the /

Best stand up comedian

Meat

Dessert

Cocktails

TV series--maybe group by genre

TV mini-series

Most dominant sports teams (pro or college?) by era or any given a specified duration (10 year, 20 year, etc)

Best world metro area for spectator sports variety

Best all-time inventions

Two of the larger criticisms (among many  ) of the tournament that ended yesterday were slash categories and a bracket with regions seeded with differing nominees. In my opinion, all tournament suggestions should be specific and narrow the projected potential nominee pool to only those sharing similar distinct qualities.

Using @DFWJC 's example, I suggest something like "TV drama series" instead of multiple genres (such as sitcom, family, etc.) some members might like included within a single tournament. That way, one stone can kill two birds by eliminating possible slash categories and brackets with differing regions.

TV needs to be categorized because it's not an even playing field. Network TV is subject to the FCC and censor while cable is not. Premium channels are also different but they could compete against the streamers that are non-commercial.

Why do I get this feeling I will be deleting video posts of Richard Pryor stand up routines because of language?

Why do I have another feeling I will be deleting my own video posts of Richard Pryor stand up routines because of language? :(

Please don't bench me @Reality :p
I don't think submitting videos would be permitted. There's not enough PG rated and if there is, it ain't damned funny.

I can't remember the last comedy I've watched on primetime (Arrested Development/Family Guy I guess). I liked Blacklist for the first few seasons.

Brainstorming. Need input.

Up until now, I have been creating threads for members to vote in specific rounds. Doing so provided permanent source threads for anyone to review after the round ended.

Unfortunately, my handiwork is creating a lot more threads that do not flow off the Off-Topic front page as quickly as I want. The forum has good traffic but not a lot of original thread creation, which would normally push old threads down each forum page faster. lol. I would not care if this happened on the Fan Zone, where 10 billion new but same-old Prescott threads are created every day.

I am considering a single thread for voting. After each round ends, I would copy-and-paste its results, along with graphic brackets, into a follow-up post within that same thread. The previous poll used for voting would be deleted and replaced with a new poll. Same process. Single source thread. Less forum clutter.

Thoughts?

And I promise I will give you the stink eye, @big dog cowboy , if you post, "Well! Why didn't you THINK of doing that already???":D

I already have movie franchises on the table. Another idea is similar movie match-ups. For examples.....Armageddon vs Deep Impact and White House Down vs Olympus Has Fallen, etc etc. I am not sure how to seed after the first round though as it will turn into just a movie vs another but I love the idea.

We could do best movie monsters/creatures.

Songs by decades.

Favorite vehicles.

I do not like four brackets separated by genres/decades/whatever. I think it should be 1 vs 32, 2 vs 31 all the way to 16 vs 16. That way we could get true results and upsets.

It's a good idea because that's got wide appeal and should get participation because DE's feelings get hurt if we don't have enough voters. And there aren't any Elvis TV dramas for cowboyec to go nuts over but get ready for an all out assault on Rawhide, he's as nuts about Eastwood as he is Elvis.

I like Spader but I got burned out on "this may be the most dangerous man in the world" every week. Oh yeah? You said that last week and why are you the only one that knows that? Interpol, Scotland Yard, FBI clueless? Break it up, "this may be the 5th most dangerous man in the world, I am saving 1-4 for the ratings sweeps".

Best Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Covers:omg:
Oh for the love of all that is holy, no! No way! I will be moderating the idea thread, go to bed, wake up, log on, and have my eyes blasted by 50 skimpily clothed models from Beijing's Sports Illustrated editions! And I didn't even know Beijing HAD Sports Illustrated!!!

(I will wait-and-see if one of my favorite posters reads that without tagging him)

Another thing to consider is that moderator Grinch, DallasEast, would restrict any photos to cleavage up. And probably top edge of cleavage up at that. Please. No one hate me. After all, my heart is three sizes too small.
