DE is not an upgrade from last season unless Alton Smith emerges.
Lawrence + Quinn = Lawrence + Griffen

The true upgrades must come from the DT’s. Our DT’s were HORRIBLE last year. They allowed Jaylon and LVE to get steamrolled.

I would agree that L+Q=L+G if you’re talking pass rush only. However, add in the ability to play the run and hold the edge and that swings the equation to: L+Q<L+G.

Just speaking for myself, I’d rather have Lawrence and Griffin because stopping the run matters too and sets up the pass rush on third and longs. I do wish Griff was younger but for this year, a great add.

I agree that the DT position improving would raise the play of the entire DL (defense).

conviction, authority, respect, trust from Jerry. All the things Garrett never had. MM picks his coaches that know their ****. And he doesn’t just leave them to handle their side of the ball. He is a real HC. It’s not a process it’s about winning now.
Garrett was a dope!

I honestly believe a lot of it had to do with Garrett's philosophy more than the Joneses'. Garrett wanted to slow-build a team like the ones he was on. He tried to build the offense (his side of the ball first) and plugged the defense with cheap fill-ins. He was the process guy. However, he never seemed to learn that you can't slow-build a team in today's NFL.

I don't absolve the Joneses because I believe they were on board the ship, if it wasn't their idea. I just think the building philosophy fits Garrett's overall philosophy.

stats clearly show griffin as the better pass rusher.

cowboys fans get fooled because Quinn totally abandoned the run and simply rushed the qb every down in a contract year.

Quinn’s sack totals prior to last year.......6.5, 8.5, 4.0, 5.0

Or another Trysten Hill.

Exactly.

I've wanted Crawford to get bumped off this roster by someone better for years. It hasn't happen simply because we haven't found someone better. Not necessarily, though, for a lack of trying (Taco Charlton, Trysten Hill, etc.)

I don’t disagree with that. Quinn was better getting to the QB than I anticipated last year, but that is skewed when you simply pin your ears back and go after the QB on just about every down... run responsibilities be damned.
