Yep some real schlock on this list...

Rob Zombie's "Halloween II" was stupid and convoluted (even for a horror film).

"The Happening" was just weird.

A few movies on the list I did enjoy:

Blair Witch II
Maximum Overdrive
Ghost Ship
House of Wax

I might take issue with you on Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hitcher.

Those are not the originals.

They are the remakes.

I thought remake of "Nightmare" while not awful, was weak.

I kinda like Ghost Ship too, and generally speaking, I don't care for Horror films. Most of them are just stupid plots, and the only scares are more of startles, when they have loud noise combined with a sudden visual effect.

I don't know if it totally qualifies as horror but a movie that scared the crap out of me as a kid was The Food of the Gods. I watched it again years later and was laughing out loud about how terrible it was.

Horror movies with religion as part of the story always shook me up as a kid. The other horror movies always felt the same and predictable, i did enjoy the jasons michaels freddies etc though.

I saw the Exorcist when I was way too young (I have older brothers). When I was an adult, I went to see it again when they re-released it in the theatre. I had to actually leave during the crucifix scene because it made me nauseous. I'm not a religious guy, it was just seeing a little girl in a scene like that. I don't think they would do something like that now.

Also have older brothers. Some of those scenes from exorcist even scenes from Damien/Omen gave me chills and some nightmares for awhile when i was a kid. Ghost stories when i was a kid also gave me a few nightmares.

My brothers made me watch the Excorcist when I was like 8. The Omen movies were another that gave me nightmares back then. It was kinda brutal being the youngest. I hope they got a good laugh out of it, lol.
