He has alot of raw physical talent. His problem is two fold. He is raw as a player, and he is too immature to be coached well. I blame Marinelli for pounding the table for him. However I blame Hill completely for his inability to get on the field.

If he can get dialed in, he could be starting caliber DT. But thats gonna take a big reversal in his approach
I cant blame the 21 year old player for being exactly who he is when you drafted him. I blame the coach and front staffer who punched the ticket.

My take so far is:
The Dline looks stacked, Crawford is starting Poe I guess still working his way back.

The secondary has a lot of competition, Lewis is in the slot and Diggs w the 2nd team. Surprising that Brown is starting man he was toast the last couple years. Haha, Woods, and Wilson at safety is exciting.

Ceedee looks good

Connor is starting at LG and the coach thinks he looks quick, sheesh wait u til the pads go on and see if he gets pushed back like last year. I’m hoping he added strength this offseason.

RT could be in flux.

So a good comment about Hill, that will get the naysayers panties in a wad. :muttley::lmao2:..yes it is day one of solo drills...

Good to hear about Wilson, maybe he can unseat Woods. I am ok with Woods, to see how the new scheme works for him, but think they can do better. Is Wilson a better tackler, as it seems he is the better ball hawk.

Glad to see them rotating the DB's, as they need to to get the right mix, then focus on them for most of TC for the reps. Since they are limited in time.

So maybe Aldon Smith is not rusty as many said....yes it is not an actual game yet...

Seems like your are the one that got his pants wet with the reaction of one good comment. :muttley:

Hill is 22 now.
Not sure why many fans are the way they are other than sheer stupidity tbh.
No reason to hate on that kid.
If he had went to Bama and spent 2 years developing then 2 playing he'd have been drafted top 5 NEXT year
He needs to add strength and hone his technique.
That applies to most rookies but is more extreme when you are literally a kid.
About half of all R1 DL are JUCO guys who are 4-5 years post high school.
Guys get bigger and stronger until at least 25.

Hill could certainly bust out. If he has nay injury or general laziness wins.
But he also very much could end up 6-7 time Pro Bowler before all is said and done.
He;s younger than McCoy by 10 years.
He's younger than McCoy was as a rookie.

I'm not sure exactly when we became so quick to rush to judgment. I guess that's increased along with technology.

Maybe some just want to be the first to call a player a bust, so that if they turn out to be right they can say they were first or they told us and pound their chest.

I prefer waiting and seeing. Some players adjust to the pros quickly and for others it takes a little time. All of us should have known it was going to take a little time with Hill. Now, I can understand being frustrated that he essentially did not contribute last year, but some players just need a redshirt year.

I'm not predicting that he's going to break out or anything, but I do think it will be interesting to see where he goes from here. Will it be slow development? Will it click for him suddenly? Will he just be a journeyman? Or will he just be another player who couldn't do it on this level?

Williams didn't really get pushed back a lot last year. Most fans' image of him is based on his 2018 play. He was more stout in 2019.

Camp Notes: Lamb’s Debut, CB Rotation; More

  • In his first NFL practice since the 2015 season, defensive end Aldon Smith got an early rep against Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith in one-on-one drills. Smith showed burst trying to beat Smith with an outside move. Call it a draw.

  • Donovan Wilson seems to be picking up where he left off last preseason. The coaching staff gave Wilson an opportunity to work with the first-team defense, and he definitely made the most of it. Wilson read Dak Prescott looking to make a near side throw outside the numbers, and he darted in front of the ball for a nifty interception. It was the first takeaway of training camp for a defense that is stressing the importance of generating turnovers.

  • It's been a talking point all offseason that the cornerback depth chart is wide open, and it sure looked that way Friday. Every position in the secondary was rotating throughout practice. Chidobe Awuzie and Daryl Worley split reps on the left side, while Anthony Brown and Trevon Diggs split reps on the right side. Jourdan Lewis and Brown split time as the slot cornerback. Xavier Woods and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix were the initial starting safeties, but both Darian Thompson and Donovan Wilson got a chance to work with the starters.

  • It's typically a position that doesn't catch the eye, but the Cowboys' defensive tackles seemed to have a solid Day 1. Gerald McCoy wears his new uniform well, and he had a fair share of wins in 1-on-1 pass rush reps. Antwaun Woods and Trysten Hill also jumped out of the solo portion, as they each tallied several wins against their offensive counterparts. Then there was Tyrone Crawford, who actually started at defensive tackle in the full-team portion of practice. Dontari Poe is still on the team's PUP list while he works back from an offseason surgery, but it'll be exciting to add him to the group when he's ready.

Thanks for Sharing ..

- Can't wait for the pads and Blue- White scrimmage to go down. Though not sure how many will be held out of the BW Scrimmage.

- Could it be possible that the CB competition could go well into the first half of the season ?

- Darian Thompson ?... Meh !

- i tend to wonder who were at OG roles in the OL unit, that Trysten Hill and Antwuann Woods got the better of ?

- Wilson seems to have the radar sense and knack for not only getting in position for the INT, but the eye-hand skills to finish the INT
but will we get a chance to see what his tackling and one on one coverage abilities are like in just limited camp ?
But its still great to hear in just a single camp day, it's already off to a great start.

It certainly looks like they are planning to replace Awuzie with Worley on the outside in the nickel. As for the other side, Diggs will be given every opportunity to win the job, Brown is just a placeholder at this time.

Xavier Woods better show up in camp or he could lose his starting job. This staff didn't draft either player and will play who wins the competition.

Heard T. Hill looked good in his first action, there are going to be many difficult cuts this year.

Can you imagine what vet OT Tyron Smith must be thinking with the head on competition in camp he's face ?
.. He has to take on Aldon Smith in camp .
... then he'll soon have Everson Griffin to take on
....if Gregory mercifully and finally gets his reinstate to join camp
...and then if rookie edge rusher Bradley Anae is everything as advertised ....

Tyron won't get a break until he's up against the likes of Armstrong and Jackson.
What an amazing abundance of riches at DE this year.

That it really good to hear. The coaches giving everyone an equal opportunity to play and even guys like Wilson and Thompson to get reps with the 1’s is exactly the way that it needs to be. It’s the way that great coaches like Parcells and Jimmy Johnson always did it.

I’ve not been one to bang on the old coaching staff all the time... but they never really did it that way, which always bothered me. The only young guys who really got that chance were high round picks like Elliott, Martin, etc.

it’s refreshing to see open competition at nearly every position.

Kudos to big Mike.
Wilson should’ve been in on at least 50% of the safety snaps last season. Our former staff sucked donkey ***** when it came to player evals. They lined their guys to the detriment of the team.

Hill unfortunately felt victim of the team possibly drafting him too high and coming right after Taco was a bust. Hill wasn't even given a chance by fans who didn't even watch him play.
I'm not even sure the team drafted him too high.
He was pick 58. Not just a second but very late 2nd.
And DAL previously hit home runs with redshirt draftees Sean Lee and Jaylon Smith.

Yes, Taco was bad. We all know the whys and hows of that but that was one straight up bust out of almost a decade of getting it right.

What did Hill do differently from McGovern and why is Hill a bum but McGovern not?
Fans just really gotta do better.

The most discouraging thing last season wasn't him being unable to contribute from go. It was his piss poor lazy approach to the game. I can handle a player needing time to develop. I cant handle a player being to soft and unmotivated to try. I haven't given up by any means, but he needs strong coaching and personal accountability.

Well to my knowledge McGovern was hurt. I have no issue with Hill. I didn't even see him play in college. But reading reports......there were a lot of red flags and it seemed like they drafted him despite his lack of production in college.

If Wilson doesnt start at one of the saftey positions this year the staff is as clueless as the last one.

Trying to remain positive there will be a season but this roster looks good. If I had a dollar for each time I’ve said that in the last 20.

on a different note does anyone know if there will be opportunities to check our practices? Or has Corona taken that out of the equation ? I’d love to drive to Frisco and watch a practice

Connor Williams was playing really well last season.

His ability and consistency in picking up and passing off blitzing and stunting pass rushers was terrific.

He was very good on 2nd level run blocking with precise angles and timing.

Fans just don't like that style of play.

Fans loved it back when La'el played LG and would over-power defenders a few times per game; however, fans overlooked that La'el made a huge number of mistakes which caused his overall performances to be subpar.

That was a fan/media narrative that was never confirmed.

It's all based on the events of the 1 week when he was called out in a meeting for appearing to be asleep. That incident embarrassed Garrett and then Garrett told him and Woods to go home for being "late" a few days later.

The "insiders" said that Garrett could have called out someone everyday for being "late" but it only happened with Hill because Garrett was embarrassed and under pressure to retain his job.

Marinelli said:
- "Hill has a high motor. He has the want-to and the physical ability but he is just not getting it" (referring to scheme/technique).
- When the media asked Marinelli if Hill was sleeping, he said "I don't think so but he'll definitely be awake now..."

Marinelli and both college D-Coordinators have said that Hill has a very "high motor".

The 2nd college D-Coordinator said that Hill was the most energetic player on the team and one of the "highest motor" players that he had coached.
- He implied that Hill was actually too energetic and that he got overly hyped up which caused him to get out of position at times.
