That was a fan/media narrative that was never confirmed.

It's all based on the events of the 1 week when he was called out in a meeting for appearing to be asleep. That incident embarrassed Garrett and then Garrett told him and Woods to go home for being "late" a few days later.

The "insiders" said that Garrett could have called out someone everyday for being "late" but it only happened with Hill because Garrett was embarrassed and under pressure to retain his job.

Marinelli said:
- "Hill has a high motor. He has the want-to and the physical ability but he is just not getting it" (referring to scheme/technique).
- When the media asked Marinelli if Hill was sleeping, he said "I don't think so but he'll definitely be awake now..."

Marinelli and both college D-Coordinators have said that Hill has a very "high motor".

The 2nd college D-Coordinator said that Hill was the most energetic player on the team and one of the "highest motor" players that he had coached.
- He implied that Hill was actually too energetic and that he got overly hyped up which caused him to get out of position at times.

Maybe this is the event your talking about. Maybe it was a single isolated incident. Maybe he just isn't who we hoped he would be.

Cowboys defensive tackle Trysten Hill not only showed up late for a meeting Tuesday, but the rookie has drawn the team’s ire for other recent transgressions.

Hill fell asleep during a team meeting with NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas last week during the Cowboys’ bye week, Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Thomas called out Trysten Hill.

Hill and defensive tackle Antwaun Woods were sent home without practicing Tuesday after being late for a meeting after the bye. Both are subject to a fine.

“I’ve been late less than 3 times in the last 9 years of football. College(5) & NFL (4). Y’all can chill,” Woods posted on Twitter.

The Cowboys expected more from Hill when they made him a second-round choice — their top pick after trading their first-rounder to the Raiders for Amari Cooper. They passed on safeties Nasir Adderley, Taylor Rapp and Juan Thornhill to take Hill, who was supposed to be a disruptive pass rusher.

Instead, Hill has played only four games, seeing action on 85 defensive snaps. That’s 18.5 percent of the team’s defensive plays this season. He has one tackle.

His inability to get on the field prompted the Cowboys to trade for Michael Bennett with Tyrone Crawford on season-ending injured reserve.

“One of the key things when a guy is not up, either you progress or you regress,” Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli said last week about Hill. “He has got to come on. I don’t think he was sharp [against the Eagles]. Opportunity comes, and Tyrone Crawford is not up. We expect him to play. I need a guy ready to go and not on his schedule.”

Fans loved it back when La'el played LG and would over-power defenders a few times per game; however, fans overlooked that La'el made a huge number of mistakes which caused his overall performances to be subpar.

I guess I’m in that boat, I like the power run game. I’ll take steady play but if the guy gets pushed back that’s no good. If he can pull and make the block I’ll be excited about that, traps and stuff but I hope they don’t do that because they have to.

The majority of the run plays that failed in 2019 were due to timing/angles, not players getting over-powered.

Zone Run Blocking
  • Most of the best running teams in recent years have been zone run blocking teams.
  • Most use a combination of zone and man, but more teams have used more and more zone each year.
  • The 49ers got to the Super Bowl for the 2019 season due to their dominant ZBS.
  • The Rams got to the Super Bowl for the 2018 season due to their dominant ZBS.
  • The Cowboys were a terrific ZBS team in 2014 and 2016.
  • The Vikings and Packers were terrific with their ZBS schemes last season.
The ZBS requires precision execution.
- It is much more about making the correct blocks and the correct angles than about over-powering defenders.
- It does however, often result in defenders getting over-powered when they get out of position.

Connor Williams was very good on zone running plays and as stated previously, very precise in pass blocking with regards to dealing with blitzes and stunts.

When you see OLinemen take steps backward in Pass Protection, it's often to avoid getting beat by quickness, not because they're getting over-powered.
- Watch how many OL takes steps backward when blocking Aaron Donald...
- As long as they're not getting driven back into the QB, it's not a problem.
