No Preseason football sucks!

I preface this by saying yes the PS is too long. Having said that, the best part of PS is getting to see all the new guys we have and see if they are players. I’m dying to see all these guys and new schemes. It’s never been about watching the starters. We’ve had JG and staff on the sidelines for 10 years. When we play the Rams it’s going to be wild to see the Team with all new coaches, and a lot of new players for our first time. And it counts!

I agree. PS football is not pretty, it has way to many penalties and mistakes. When I watch a pre season game I expect to see 1st unit go in for a series or 2 and produce. After that it is about rookies and backup players earning jobs and again while not pretty to watch I think it is important for those player and coaches to see players in game situation that can't be duplicated in a controlled practice.

I liked the PS games, to see all the other players to pull for, and to se which ones, even is on the PS to develop.
4 games a bit long anymore, but need a good 3 games. That 4th game was more for ST's and PS guys, but I still watched every minute.

If you manage expectations and tune in for preseason expecting...well, preseason football, then it’s just fine.

This entire offseason has sucked and not having any preseason games have just made the withdrawals worse. They are the necessary evil, they usher in the new season, much like Christmas music in November. I can't wait to see the guys all geared up and ready to go.

Exactly and it works the other way. 4th QB Romo comes in vs Oakland in pre season makes a big play afterwards Parcells is talking about his moxie, prior to that you did not hear much about Romo. Pre season matters, it is not pretty but it can tell you things that practice can't because of the nature of practice which is a controlled situation. Coaches are not going to have player making full contact, as soon as you touch the ball carrier the whistle is blown.

Then that would be on the viewer, any football fan should know what to expect. 1st unit you always want to see positive playing from them. 2nd and 3rd string, it is not about team or winning it is about individual players and trying to see what guys in game condition can make plays.

Teams rarely show their hands and their new schemes in preseason. On any side of the ball. The coaches are looking at the basics for the young players and technique in a game situation. The vets are going through the motions the very little they play. Teams are just wanting the game to get over as soon as possible without injuries. It is very ugly to watch.

I am glad we don't have preseason. The coaches see enough of the young players during practice. High school and college do not have preseasons and do just fine. College has a spring game against each other. High school might play a scrimmage.

Preaeason is nothing more than a money grab for the league and owners to pocket money. Not sure about the other sports but the NFL forces the season ticket holders to buy the preseason tickets with their season ticket packages.

August is weird without preseason NFL no doubt, but I can’t say I miss it. The quality over the last decade has plummeted since no one wants to show anything or risk certain players, which is understandable.

And this year I’m glad they canceled The preseason, as it’s another method of preventing players from being exposed to covid19 prior to the infinitely more important regular season. 2-3 less road trips while there are still several “hotspots” could prove to be the best decision the NFL has made in a while.

yeah, PS games = boring if you watch them from a football game standpoint, but a requirement if you care about knowing what you have in rookies without it hurting you in regular season.

I get what you're saying, but if all we lose are preseason games - in this crazy year - I'll be thrilled.
