How many more players need to be released?

Don't like it.

First...if your QB needs to miss time, you need to sign a street guy to be #2. You're a play away from not being able to run your offense.

Also...should always be developing a younger guy at that spot.

It's just not worth the risk up against keeping some ST guy who wont suit up most games.

I completely agree with this. Keeping only 2 QB's is a gamble, and sooner or later it will bite you in the *** for the reason you detailed.

Grabbing an extra roster spot by only keeping 2 is seductive, but it's just not worth it.

I would imagine they plan for two of the three IR guys

Lee ... Bernard

Lewis ... Carr

he has to clear 24 hour waivers
yup, but if claimed another team has to keep him on the 53.
and again he cant really help on special teams and knows no ones defense.
not that large a gamble imho. but yes a small one.

Either way they likely go when we pick up players

Yes, the roster will not be set once 3 other players are released.
Maybe Dowdle goes, and once Lee and Bryant go on IR, they bring in a LB and a RB from waivers. Maybe Bernard even may be brought back.

Word has been Lewis possibly to IR as well.

I'm guessing they keep Bryant, and then IR him along with Lee and Lewis.
They bring back Bernard and bring in a free agent or two.

I see that a certain reporter thinks TE Dalton Schultz will be lead blocker for Elliot in an 11 personnel scheme. Which could mean that Dowdie might be on PS.

I dont see any way Dowdle doesnt clear waivers.

Many teams have their version of him and would rather go that way.

I'm not even worried about Bernard and Carter making it back to PS.

Even if Dowdle makes the 53, or 55, whatever it is....he isnt going to dress.

I'm sure that is the goal, but I'm guessing they are at least a bit worried that Dinucci might not clear. He has looked very good, given the short offseason.
The Matt Moore scenario has to be at least a small fear.
They won't allow Dinucci to test the waiver wire. QB is one position heavily scouted by all teams and they know about that guy. He would get snatched in a matter of seconds on the waiver wire. No PS for him. The Cowboys will carry 3 QBs.

List of players the Dallas Cowboys have reportedly cut so far …

  • Charlie Taumoepeau, TE
  • Pace Murphy, OT
  • Isaac Alarcón, OT* (should return to PS)
  • Cody Wichmann, G
  • Adam Redmond, C/G
  • Marcus Henry, C*

See I dont know if that's true, but I'm not willing to chance it.

I dont think the team is either. They used their 7th on him because of the high interest in UDFA.

I dont really know how many teams out there could use a future HOF QB, but I definitely dont want to find out.
