Hasn't been a defensive coordinator since 2014 in Atlanta.

Took over the Falcons DC job and inherited the #8 defense in the league.

It went to #12, #28, and #32 the next three years.

Nobody offered him a DC position since then.

Excited?

Yes, he's improved every team (save for ATL) that he's ever been on & fielded a top 10 def in every stop (again, save ATL):

Yes.

I've been a fan of the way he calls defenses for a long time.

He may end up being terrible but he won't give opposing QB's a look that is so easy to read that middle schools QB's know where to consistently go with the ball.

Well, he'll probably be an upgrade over Rod's obvious defense and the duo of confusion when Rod handled the D-Line and Richard the back 7.

When he was in ATL, they really didn't hit on a single defensive draft pick outside Desmond Trufant. They hadn't drafted a probowler on D since 2009.

No. not that excited about Nolan. He's probably just average.

But at least he's a coordinator truly on board with the head coach, and that's been a problem around here since Parcells left.

Was Wade Phillips not on board with Wade Phillips? Just kidding. It does seem that McCarthy is quite comfortable with Nolan at this point.

Are we doing this again? Those numbers don't come close to telling the whole story about Nolan's career as a defensive coordinator.

I would not say I am excited or discouraged I would say right now I am curious how this defense will play. I know Nolan will send blitz packages more than what we have seen in recent years which should allow guys like DLaw to get those 1 on 1 matchups. Reports in camp on Aldon Smith have been encouraging as well as recent reports on Diggs. The return of the Wolf Hunter along with putting Jaylon at weakside LB has me very curious and hopeful that this unit can improve from where they were.

He's proven himself to be a good DC in the past when he's had the talent. Other DC's such as Marvin Lewis, Buddy Ryan and Monte Kiffin have peaked when they had the talent. Same can be said for Wade Phillips and Dick LeBeau.

The challenge Nolan has is that he'll be playing a lot of players that weren't on the team last year.

The book on Nolan, IMO, is his performance early. Nolan lives by the blitz, in most seasons. He also dies by it, so to speak. When you run that kind of scheme, it's usually successful early but as time goes on, rival OCs figure it out and take advantage of it. I think what you will see is an early success for Nolan in Dallas but decline as time goes on.

I am thankful George Edwards is here. Plus maybe Nolan learned a couple things from Allen in NO. I think he is one of the best. The worry about Nolan is justified though.

With completely different players in a completely different time....and yes I'm a little excited.

I could have unveiled a bunch of playoff numbers regarding their HC before last season that would have not made too many Chiefs fans excited.

Do you really think Nolan doesnt know his football, or that the idea of finally disguising what we are doing is going to help?

Of course available guys arent going to have the best track record. Either that or go with an unknown, and youd probably blast that too.

Not sure what you want, but if your point is that Nolan has zero chance to get it done here....you're dead wrong.

Nolan had to deal with poor defensive personnel his last year in Atlanta. I think it's probably fair play to take that into serious consideration.
