We're at least 1 dominant DT, 1 talented LB and 1 opportunistic/instinctive safety away from having a good defense. Not even great.

But if some young guys can start stepping up in the next few games and we're in the division leader mix that will be the biggest factor if we are going to make a playoff run and then a push during the tournament.

Will Trysten Hill get pressure up the middle and will Gallimore start showing he can start? Woods is solid but just that and Poe looks like he is taking a pay check. We are getting absolutely no pass rush up the middle and are not pushing back the pocket in that regard. Our run defense did improve ood playing but it still needs improvement.

On the o-line Biadasz or McGovern coming on would be huge. Shultz looks much improved and can play. Other than the o-line, I'm confident in the offense as a whole.

Surprised Poe didn't get cut in TC. We didn't have a contingency plan at safety really and cut Clinton-Dix. Hill/Woods/Gallimore/Crawford is probably enough depth it's better than putting guys out there who flat out can't play lol.

Any team with 4 turnovers in the 1st quarter and behind 20-0 is going to struggle to win. We did win and that's saying something. As the OP said, we just need the defense to play a little better and we'll be right there.

Exactly!

I agree but I think they see Worley as a contingency and then possibly Carr down the near road.

This defense suk balls lol

And the offense doesn't look good in "regular" game mode, still too predictable. Sure, they looked good in helter skelter come back mode, but so did Romo a lot of the time and look where that got us.

The coordinators are still getting outcoached in most parts of the game. Nolan's BBDB to start most games, with little deception, little attempt to establish dominance at the LOS, it's depressing. It's Marinelli 2.0. But I will cut Nolan some slack since they didn't have a pre-season and had less practices.

Moore doesn't get a pass, as he was the play caller LAST season. Seeing the same plays early in the game, with no creativity (no WR screens, no bunch formations, little motion, etc), it all looks the same. I need to see more from a play calling standpoint.

...on both sides of the ball.

STs is at least trying to be creative, even if it's during inopportune times. But I like the effort, to be unpredictable. I really do. But the execution is often subpar.

So, I'm watching the Saints @ Raiders game. The Saints are supposed to be contenders in the NFC South, right? Cuz they don't look very good at the moment. The Falcons always find ways to lose. The Bucs might be a bit tricky, but I think we may be ok against them. The 49ers are demolished. I don't think we'll lose to the Rams again if we play them. The Seahawks will be a problem as will the Cardinals. So, that takes care of one potential wild card slot. In the NFC North is terrible outside of the Packers so far.

The point of what I'm saying, we may be a dangerous team if we can A. stop turning the bloody ball over, B. when we gel, and C. our defence starts playing better. I know we're only 2 games in and some teams will start to fade and rise as usual. Especially with no offseason programs. With that said, once we start to gel under McCarthy, I am starting to get a feeling we may actually be able to make a decent playoff run. We'll, of course, need our defence to play better as stated. I'm not saying we'll go to the Super Bowl. However, with the way the rest of the NFC looks, we may actually have a shot at getting at least to the division round and maybe the NFCC, if we're lucky. That is all.
Thank you for the positive post. I agree with you. The Cowboys are good enough to certainly win this sorry division but I see them geting much better down the road. As you called it, when they gel, they have a chance for a deep playoff run. I think they have a good shot at the NFCC.

I think so too. Just a question of how far we go. I don't think we make it to the Super Bowl as our defence isn't at that level yet. However, I think we should be able to get to the NFCC, especially when we start to gel.

So because the Saints lost they are not contenders? ok buddy.

Their defense is very good and Brees was obviously affected without Michael Thomas. You probably didn't even know he was missing.

Niners look like they are done, I agree on that.

Cowboys defense is too bad to expect any kind of long playoff run. Not going to beat these good teams in the playoffs.

This team is a miracle away from being 0-2 and when we lose this week it will be 1-2 and should be 0-3.

What do we have to look forward to? Offense should get better with Collins and Smith, but I have a feeling those guys will be in and out all year long.

Defense all we got is Lee coming back. But the younger guys should improve. But there will me more injuries for sure.

I'm not saying that the Saints aren't contenders. I'm just saying I think our defence is at least on par with them. On top of that, we have a new HC and quite a few new coaches. They don't have that. If the Saints are contenders, then I think so are we.

BTW, I'm fully aware that Michael Thomas was inactive last night. I noticed that all game. That doesn't explain the Saints looking terrible, and they've got experienced players there. We have a lot of young players on ours.

Why because you watched one game? Their defense is much better than ours. Even watching last night you should have seen that. I guess you are not familiar with the Raiders either. Raiders are for real now. 3rd year under Gruden and he has rebuilt that team the right way.

I think Dallas will make the playoffs but only because a 8 or 9 win team should win the East.

Having tons of talent is great but very few guys are living up to their reputations, especially on defense.

Oh, I know the Raiders are good, I'm just feeling pretty good about our chances.

Wouldnt shock me in the slightest if Dallas beat Seattle this week, then spent the week reading their praise, then choked against Cleveland.

That's been this teams MO for years.

This is on MM to fix and I have very little confidence in that man at the moment.

Totally agree. Fans can think whatever they want but the game is about execution and that doesn't come from zoom calls. It comes from reps on the field and with a brand new coaching staff and scheme - it takes more reps than normal. With no preseason, it was pretty much the second half of game 2 before the defense had its sea legs.
