That's a good question.

I had heard on a Cowboys radio show that the issue with Bernard is that he is "slow", and that "he knows he's slow". To me, that says that the team clearly sees his limitations, and the player does as well. So maybe in an effort to compensate, Bernard 'guesses', and sometimes he guesses wrong.

And if he's limited enough physically, maybe they see what his ceiling truly is, and it's not high enough to worry about him being poached. A risky strategy, and it will be interesting to see how it goes. Given the issues a team linebacker, I would have protected him.

Seems like most of the players fans are worried about getting taken never do get taken, though.

Very true, and I readily admit that I'm one of those fans. Many times I have overrated the team's talent and worried they'd be scooped up immediately, only for it not to happen. Bernard is the most recent example.

With the way our CB's looked vs. ATL they had to keep 2 protected this week.

Why? Is there any team out there thinking their starters stunk so their backups must be good? :) Just kidding.

Note: this does not mean I thought the CBs were awful.

Just my opinion, but to me right now it was a flag they rather poach the lightweight FAU linebacker from the Bears than continue to protect/promote Bernard even with the rash of injuries at LB

i agree something seems fishy. but if you tell me that all the guy does is make plays in camp, he needs to get a shot. if it was all PR BS, then we should call that out.

you might not have noticed but other than Smith we are indeed “hurting” at DE

Smith, Griffen, Armstrong, Anae are a better group than we've had lots of seasons. Armstrong is playing pretty well. Anae looked good in camp and looked good in limited play.

That's not counting DLaw or Gregory.

A dline isn't going to get a lot of pressure playing from behind all game.

Why would anyone be upset about Bernard? He’s 100% media sensation at this point. He hasn’t even played in an exhibition game. His plays were in practice and we only know he made a few good ones. The reporters never say who was way out of their gap on a big run play or missed tackles in practice.
They did not have exhibition or preseason games. Play makers make plays. He made plays in practice a lot. The Cowboys LBs have not made plays. So fans want to see if he can do it in a real game.

Every year prior to this one, there is a period of time from when training camp starts until the 1st preseason game.

We hear many media reports about how players are performing during that time.

Once the preseason games start and we can see for ourselves, the vast majority of the media reports were wrong.

agreed. but if i recall correctly it wasn't just the media. Coaches & other players were talking about Bernard. Just very disappointing to get your hopes up that a guy might be a longshot success story and then ..... nothing.

But the Cowboys more than any other team is all about smoke & mirrors. Don't know why I'm surprised.

Would you be okay with losing LB Francis Bernard in order to protect a 2nd practice-squad CB?

If Bernard is not good enough to be on the active 53 with the problems we have at LB, is he worth even saving?

That is an honest question given the circumstances we are in, not sarcastic.

And no I don't really trust the coaching staff to make the right decision regarding our LB as Joe Thomas should start over Jaylon anyway!
