How do you propose we fix the offensive line and entire defense if Dak gets paid?

We have this overlapping issue it seems where we wasted the prime of our offensive line with Dak, including the previous group of receivers that got tossed out as well because of Romo's situation.

Now we have all the young talented receivers you could ask for but in this time the oline has fallen apart and the defense has a bunch of brandon carrs at literally every position.

We know what Dak cant do with lesser receivers, we know what Dak still cant do with great receivers, how do we get a jump start to fixing this team within 1-2 seasons rather than hopefully building up over several seasons, by then losing whatever talent we had left at OL, RB, and possibly WR?

The offense is already stacked vs the defense in terms of cap space used, and there's no way we could expect better results on offense if those key talents are gone so what do we do?

It'll take longer than that..... The defense isn't a few players away from even being bad. They are horrible.

Maybe start with a proven DC and D staff?

THe OL still as some good you pieces, Colllins, Martin, WIlliams, and Bidasz are all good football players,

Collins was the top ol for this team last year

Nothing will really change on how this team is built.
Draft for starters and free agency for depth/waste of money.

While free agency isn't guaranteed, this team views it's players too highly and underrates anyone who hits the FA market.

Easy.
1. If the OL is healthy, it's still one of the best. The Collins thing is just weird.
2. Fire Nolan. The defensive issues go far beyond talent. The scheme sucks, the heart is missing. Starts with the DC. He has never been a good DC. McCarthy's worst decision.
3. Draft well with a defensive focus.
4. Hit on the mid-priced, bargin free agents. This years haul has been a bust. You can make moves with a tight cap. You just have to make the right ones.

If I'm JJ/MM, I'm making it a mission to fix this D once and for all.......new DC, spend the next 2 entire drafts on D, try and sign a true defensive playmaker ( Von Miller perhaps ). Give me a bunch of young HUNGARY players, surrounded by couple elite vets.

The offensive line is fine. The defense is so bad that when they miss a block and the offense gets stopped we lose the game. The defense needs to improve through the draft. Take the same approach that we did when we drafted Tyron, Frederick, and Martin. We need a defensive tackle first. Line backers can be had in the middle rounds. Corners and Safeties can be sprinkled in the second and third rounds. Trade Gallup for a first round pick. Sign Wilson to a team friendly deal

Well, a few options so to speak:

DT/DE Tyrone Crawford $9.1M cap hit in the last year of his deal and I do not see Dallas bringing him back unless it's for a $1-2M/year deal

DE Everson Griffin $5.8M cap hit in the last year of his deal and I do not see Dallas bringing him back

LB Sean Lee $4.5M cap hit in the last year of his deal and I do not see him coming back next year

DT Dontari Poe $4.5M cap hit with $750K dead money next year so a $4M savings if cut after this season; I think Dallas releases him

LT Tyron Smith $14M cap hit next year with $8.8M in dead money so a savings of $5.2M if his health continues to decline

Carry Over Cap $23.6M

So, Dallas could have over $50M in cap space available next season with some player releases plus more if they look at restructuring some deals......however with the decision on Dak next season Dallas could either dedicate the majority of their free cap space towards helping to fix the OL & Defense or a much smaller percentage if they decide to re-sign Dak.

I mean this isn't rocket science @InTheZone

1. Dak already takes up more CAP under the tag than he would his first three seasons under an extension, meaning we gain CAP.
2. Cut overpaid players like Zeke, Crawford, Jaylon, etc

There are so many QBs like Goff who have been paid and their defense isn't amlngst the worst in the league, our QB is doing his job its time for the front office to do theres.

If anyone still has the stance that we shouldn't pay Dak they simply aren't worth talking football with at this point. They're too far gone.

Got to get the injured defensive players back before we can really get a feel. Can LVE be depended on? Are the CB's solid enough to hold the spots for a couple or more seasons? Does Gregory boost the D-line?
