"Likely"

Is there anyone from the team who has said that Martin will play starting T?

Helman says Jerry threw Martin AND Connor Williams out there as a POSSIBLE option....

He also says MM refused to answer whether or not either was an option but he didn't get the impression he was favoring AT THIS TIME.

I said this before, I'm not sure we can even assume Martin is in on this If it's something the coaches wanna do. Sure he's willing to help any way he can but his buy-in matters.

Smartest thing we could do at this point.

This will allow the front office / coaching staff to go into free agency and the draft definitively knowing several things:

1) Whether Knight can emerge as a scrappy Doug Free level starter at OT or whether he’s limited to being a career backup.

2) If it’s time to pull the plug on Connor Williams.

3) If McGovern is a late bloomer or a bust.

4) If Tyler B. is the answer at C.

For better or worse, we’ll know where we stand. There will be no questions marks or mysteries in the offensive line room. Everybody will be a known entity.

I think we've been assuming things, based on Jerry's words that he thinks McGovern is ready! Let's wait and see who starts and where they'll play. Only Jerry knows what in the world he's talking about. Honestly, I'm not even sure about that! Sometimes, he's just hard to figure out.

Who says Zack is moving to tackle?
I must have missed the official announcement .
I doubt it happens. An all pro guard should stay at guard.
You did see him play great there 2 games back, right?

He’s our best option at tackle.

Food for thought. There are times when Jerry speaks in riddles. Could it all be part of a clever plan to confuse the opposition? :muttley:

It's not like there were other options. Though it's possible zack goes left and knight goes right. We'll see sunday. Possible record high temps expected.

Yep -- those high temps could be our friend. These NY teams are used to the perky temps! It's in the bag, baby -- (or not.)

This may be true but is this the best move for the offense and/or team? I'm not sure.....saying he's our "best option" isn't guaranteeing we're getting All-Pro level play from him at tackle that we certainly expect at G. Also, moving him outside would no doubt weaken the interior. In other words, moving him IMO would put a ? on every position on the OLine.

The OL is seemingly a work in progress right now.

Looks like we may be playing musical chairs 'til they get settled.
We're in flux -- or, I guess you could safely say -- wait for it . . . we're fluxed. :muttley:

The key also is that we have better backup options at guard then tackle. Not as good as Zack—clearly, but a net gain over keeping Zack at guard and playing a horrible tackle.

Bout damn time!!!! Im excited to see what the kid's got. Heres to hoping he's as good as the front office claimed when he was drafted...
Martin is RUN making machine. I can’t imagine him doing very well at tackle. I followed his career in Notre Dame.

The problem with the offense of line is the run game. We’re losing because the defense sucks

I think we should move Zach to LT and flip Knight to RT. Tyron is injury prone older player, cannot play 16 games any longer, and now is facing neck surgery. Very likely he's done. If Collins can come back, then he and Knight can compete for the starter at RT.

Good Jerry. Williams is the better choice to move out to OT. We're not moving a player out of a position of dominance. Should be better than Steele.

Though LT makes more sense for Williams, having last played LT in college. He did get some minimal snaps at RT his rookie season in camp.
