I thought I'd bring this up. Its hard to deny that we have been bit by the injury bug as much as any team out there. Combine that with no preseason, we got guys starting that have no experience with limited practices/ no scrimmages and then combine that with new coaches (with the exception of Kellen Moore), do we hold off on making assessments on the HC, OC, and DC?

Even though I made the statements above, I'm not saying I'm forgiving..... one of the marks of good coaching is situational awareness making adjustments as necessary.

I was willing to but when I see the browns and the panthers play pretty good after going through the same circumstances,I'm a little less inclined..but I'm not on the fire everyone agenda...........YET

I will say this I'm not asking they get fired but I do expect them to come in and get this team winning football games. I don't believe in hiring a HC and saying you have 1 year to get the job done but meantime I also expect them to take the talent they have and win football games. To this point I have been disappointed but this season is far from over.

I'm willing to give mccarthy and moore some slack, but nolann is a different story. His defense hasn't just been bad, but historically bad. If he can get this unit to league average we can revisit, but even with a team of backups its inexcusable to be this bad. As of right now I see no reason for him to be back in 2021.

McCarthy and Moore deserve slack. Nolan - no. Nolan insisted on running a highly complex defensive scheme during a shortened offseason with less time to practice, in a pandemic. That complexity is why everything is *** up on defense now.

Absolutely not.

We also need to stop operating like more time is better for these coaches.

2 years.. Win something or leave..

It's not a process and you don't need ages to build a winner in the NFL.

McCarthy is 2-3 with a roster that is sporting backups at Key positions in his first year as Cowboys coach.......he had no offseason or camp and has to figure out what he has on the fly

Moore - im not all that high on this guy......

Nolan - players on defense cant even line up correctly after 5 games and theres nothing the defense does well........offseason or not im looking elsewhere at seasons end

I am more willing to cut McCarthy and Moore slack than Nolan. But the leash is short on the first two.

The offense has had it's issues but it was still putting up points. There are definitely things to complain about but overall, I struggle to give Moore a ton of crap. On the flipside, you see a defense that is atrocious by historical perspective. And the reality is some of the things you are seeing from beat writers and others about the defense are similar things you hear about how Nolan flamed out in Atlanta.

Nolan hasnt really been successful at any of his previous jobs. He hadnt even coached in last 6 years. Our defense was ranked close to bottom as of last week. Our defensive line, LBers, and secondary have all looked out of sync.
lets turn this around-why do you think Nolan will become a top DC as season progresses?

Nolan and McCarthy-100% yes. They could have come in and said we will keep things simple and not make too many changes (perhaps something Jerry might have liked to hear) but no, they came in and realised the DEF and drafting policy had been terrible for years and changes were needed. A more complex DEF was clearly needed given some of the comments in the past (Sam Darnold). What they have perhaps underestimated is how poor the playing staff is (perhaps with a full off season they made have realised). Either way, both back next season.

Moore-75%. Do wonder if McCarthy would be better in certain games, I would give him the rest of the season. Dak's injury might mean we learn more now as to how creative he is.

Im not going to judge the new staff with bad players with garrett culture that have carried over. I like to see staffs in a full offseason getting their players

We have played 5 weeks of "real time" football. We still see a terrible defense, poor special teams play and turnovers. It's all starts with the coaches. McCarthy is fully culpable for the shortcomings of his staff.

What are they waiting for before they make a change on kick returns? Pollard is soon going to muff a kick-off and cost the team with a bad turnover.

If he wins the division with all these key injuries it will be a huge success.

Great responses.....my thoughts

McCarthy - Going into last week, I was only going to give him a small amount of slack-he didn't truly have an opportunity yet to put his imprint on the team. Dak's injury may give him just a little more slack, HOWEVER, this may show how good of a coach he may be. He does lose points if the D continues to perform at this level, and he doesn't take matters into his own hands and take it out of Nolan's hands.

Moore - I don't give much slack only because of his propensity to get too cute and fancy. Those back to back misdirection plays late in the 4th qtr simply pisses me off. Its okay that one doesn't work -just trying to catch the D in over-pursuit, but then you try it again??? Its almost like feast or famine with Moore. And he doesn't get extra slack cause of injuries, injuries don't have anything to do with that type of decision-making.

Nolan - No slack, he should have known after the Atlanta game with (Hurst TD, and other blown coverages) that adjustments needed to be made. Talent has nothing to do with blown coverages and confusion, and maybe it was short-sighted to think that the players could grasp his defense with limited work.

I don't get why people have to see what Nolan does with different players. He bombed out in Atlanta and the criticisms of his time there are now popping up here. The fact former players speak out about his scheme issues also doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.

I think it's fair to judge him because he's not even treading water.......... his defenses are SIGNIFICANTLY worse than the bad one Marinelli/Richard put out there in 2019. He's also been the worst of all the new DCs.

If he doesn't show immediate improvement over the next couple of games, I'd fire him for sure mid-season.

McCarthy was hired because he had decades of experience and we expected him to turn a decent team into one of the best.

He doesn't get the benefit of a learning curve. He was hired to win now.

And part of his job is hiring the right assistants. The fact he backs Nolan is a mark against him. You can't use Nolan's failures as an excuse for McCarthy.

inuries to two starting lbs, and two starting corners, the loss of mccoy early, have hampered dc's efforts. just as many injuries to offense. both starting tackles gone for the year. looney missing several games. jarwin out for year in first game of season. despite this, kellen moore scores an A in my book. mccarthy has mismanaged a few plays, but it's too early to tell. same for nolan.

All teams are seeing injuries. It's not an excuse. And the issues surrounding the defense - bad schemes, confusion, etc. - are all things that Nolan came under fire for when in Atlanta. We are going to waste a couple of seasons, if not more, with this guy as DC if this defense doesn't start to show real improvement.

I’d be less inclined to give slack if we hadn’t seen how much better the coaching and in-game decision making had been first hand. I had no idea what we’d been missing, but now it’s obvious.

As for the injuries, some of them are bad luck. Some are conditioning related. That’s part of the deal. You assemble a 53 man roster for just that eventuality.

I do think implementing two new systems in a preseason-shortened offseason invites a lot of the confusion and the mental errors that we’re seeing early. But it’s pretty bad. We’re far enough along in the season a this point that that stops being an excuse, though. It just a disappointing year so far, all around.
