Everyone knew that the first four games of 2020 would likely be used as preseason games by most teams. While winning was important, the lack of a preseason and limits in training camp was sure to cause coordination issues with both offense and defense.
Across the league there has been high scoring games and offensive shootouts as defenses struggled to play catchup in the secondaries. Quarterbacks have been passing to wide open receivers as they shredded secondaries not yet up to speed. Every season begins with 2-0 teams who seem to be breaking out, only to fall to sub .500 levels by the end of the year.
But 2020 was always going to be different. And with the teams beginning to adjust, don't be surprised to see some 3-2 or even 4-1 teams fall flat as the season now gets into a semblance of a regular grind.
As usual, the NFC East is weak, but the Eagles began to look stronger, even in losing to the Steelers this past week.
The Cowboys and the Eagles may very well make the East just a little more respectable by the end of the season.
And now, the Cowboys finally have a chance to see Mike McCarthy's leadership take center stage, as opposed to Garrett's hijinks.

Did you just make a sane post?
That was my initial thought as well, but a sane post coming on the heels of a season-ending injury to the franchise quarterback does give me pause. Reading between the lines of his history I think it's more of now, we have a chance to see the leadership of Andy Dalton. This is probably a little sleight of hand injecting McCarthy and Garrett instead of Dak and Dalton. In any case I'm sure that's the direction in which it will go before the first page is full:laugh:

In our 5th game, which we barely won vs the then 0-4 Giants, the Cowboys gave up 34pts — to a team that had scored 48pts combined in their first 4 games.

Unless McCarthy has some fairy-dust to sprinkle on the D, it’s hard to see this team going anywhere.

We may win the NFC Least title but, judging on what we’ve seen so far, it’s likely we’d be a one-and-done playoff team.

Did you really think there wouldn't be an adjustment period for McCarthy, especially with Covid restrictions hampering training camp?
I think you'll start to see a different Cowboys team as the season progresses.

No...OF COURSE I knew there would be an adjustment period.

Meanwhile, the D continues to hemorrhage points at an NFL historic pace.

I don't think the Eagles are getting any better, not with Wince. Sure, they gave the Steelers a run, but I think the Steelers are overrated at this point. They didn't look that great against the Broncos, anyway. If we could just find some semblance of a defense, we could easily take this division. But...I don't know how we improve it enough to stop anyone from doing as they please.

Dak isn’t playing so a lot of irrational posters are trying to make sense now. Interesting phenomenon taking place.

But remember, they didn’t “hate” Dak. They didn’t even know Dak. They just thought he was average and not worth $40 million a year.

Moore was supposed to be the coach whisperer - with the Boise State offense. We Hire Mike McCarthy who came directly from the Bill Walsh School of WCO and we don't see any of that aside from some errant screens. I think Moore runs a combination of this and Garrett's playbook.

Because he is clearly what is wrong with this team.

The problem is the defense and it’s bad, historically bad. There are no in-season fixes for this. Mike Fisher thinks it will get better; I hope that he’s right.

You have a great point lets keep Kellen Moore and work on just the defense. I mean if it's historically bad that's like a historical statement (the defense). Kellen Moore can teach MM the Garrett offense over time. It's going to take some time for McCarthy to adjust for sure I get that. The defense will also take some time it's brand new. I get that too!

Sounds like a rap.

we start out not fumbling 2 times in the first 20 minutes..

that's how.

Our offense has started off crappy every game spotting teams easy 10-14 point leads before we can make first downs.

Everybody wants to fire the defense but heck..when the other team only has to go 30-40 yards to score..

we are going to look like a Chinese Fire drill.

Stop the fumbles and Ints and have a shot at not having to beat the other team PLUS ourselves.

It is rather easy for the defense to get in a bind when the offense is putting them in a hole for the first three quarters of the game. Dak has been a terribly slow starter and these slow starts begin last year. The offense also turned the ball over early in games. The defense is bad enough as it is without piling on the problems created by the slow starting offense.
