This could actually be a good wake up for the cowboys

Let us face it. Even without injuries and all , this team just did not have the talent to go anywhere this year or next year. We have seen mediocrity at its best , even with Dak , Zeke. OL and WR talent. There are big big defensive voids, overpaid talent, and an aging OL.
This shock of events, injuries, and losses are a good wake up call to examine the way players are evaluated, and a team is being build and managed. I hope jerry and stephen do the right thing with immediate effect:

- Trade for defensive help immedietlhy by trading some WR and other well fortified assets. The DE Griffin trade idea is a good start, and hope to see a WR, Zeke ( even if the cowboys eat half his bloated deal ) and some other assets are being shipped or a DT /LB/CB/S/OL help.

- Dak : Either have him sign a freindly deal , or trade him or let him walk and build via top draft pick on a rookie affordable contract ( saving 25-30 mil a year).

- Asess the way players are being evaluated at the draft and beyond. There is a talent gap across this team .

ur right with every thing u said friend but i already know jerry and stephen will use a new staff and injuries as a excuse to run it back next season. they are 100% sure they builded a super bowl contender even though the whole core is rotten. there is some thing very wrong with the players on this team and having the worst coaching staff in the nfl does not help. this is what the jones built but they think they are the chiefs or some thing that just got unlucky with injuries.

The team had enough talent to go to the Super Bowl, bad as the defense would have been anyways. The entire NFC is bad, and Dallas' offense meant they could beat anyone.

Tampa, GB, and LAR are the only complete teams in the entire conference - and even then, they all have one major flaw or another.

Hard to assess the players when half the starters are out with injuries.
Sometimes players are decent as they all can’t be pro bowl types. But when talent goes down around them, the flaws are more noticeable.

So how can one evaluate the team when this happens. It says they need a better player there eventually,

We could've went somewhere if we had the right DC and if they added the right DL and a S.

Problem is that these players don’t care. Will the new players coming in care. The leaders on staff and HC and player leaders have to show effort. Everyone is just sleep walking. We had talent on the front 7 but none show the effort to get it done.

I’m not throwing in the towel with the staff because of COVID and the injuries. It seems extremely over-reactionary to me to just fire everybody with the backdrop of 2020 taken into consideration, though I’ll admit that Nolan has done nothing noteworthy to keep his job and has put a defense on the field that is providing plausible, sensible and reasonable grounds that he should be fired, which is amazing given he’s only seven games in.

However, if we can get healthy, have a good off season, get some help in the draft, and have the players come into a full training camp with a chip on their shoulders then next year could be a lot better.

The dark cloud hanging over all of this is Dak’s injury.

Agreed.

I was expecting some better results w Nolan.

I thought his different look thing would work well.

I dont think it's all on him.... theres some dumb, lazy, complacent and spoiled players here (plus some that just stink)....

But now, given his track record, I'm not sure I want to gear a full rebuild around him.

IMO that's the biggest issue moving ahead.

I agree with you but think they need to sign Dak (you just don't take a chance on even a first round QB when you have a proven leader and player like Dak), Zeke is still good and you aren't going to get a better RB when you consider eating his deal and still not having that cap space. Hopefully we get an extremely high pick this year that we can flip for several defensive players and multiple picks.

and LB’ers and corners. So basically we could trade our entire defense we might have a chance at succeeding in the playoffs.

Yeah he would have to have a lot of smart talent around him to pull this off.

With the talent we got before the season started on the front should have produced a pass rush and run stop that would allow the LBs and back end to do work. And I watched this first game and they just got ran through. Every game they are getting ran through and no pressure. No effort. I know maybe age slowed them up but I haven’t heard Poe name called all season:

Our OL is not bad if we are healthy. It’s a good OL. Might be even better next year with the experience the back ups are getting this year.

We are speaking in terms of trading. We can afford trading one WR. Who on our O-line are we trading off to improve another area without further weakening that line?

I still think it is going to take a 2-14 record with 10 or 12 really embarrassing losses. I think the Washington game qualifies as one. The Cards game would too but the media was too busy heaping praise on the Cards.

If everyone is laughing at Jerry, that may wake him up to some truths.

I overlooked the context of your comment. No. We can’t trade the assets we have on the OL. We need them.
