MM WILL STEP DOWN AFTER HE SEASON. Or before. You can see it in his eyes. He looks like hes burnt out already.

The most we can hope for is Nolan getting canned. MM is going nowhere, and Moore is even safer.

They are going to pass on firing him this year IMO.

The injuries are an excuse they will use, along with that virus thingy and new schemes and such.
They won't eat all that coaching money up front if they fire him.

If the defense continues this amazing pace, then I could see Nolan getting sent packing after this year, along with one or two assistant coaches.

Can't see the injuries being used as an excuse. There's a big difference between a reason and an excuse. Excuses are when something is used to justify results aren't there when the fault really lies elsewhere. A reason is what's actually the cause of something.

In Dallas' case it's a combination. When you lose 4 of your starting 5 offensive linemen, that's a reason. When you lose 1, or maybe 2, that's an excuse.
There is no need for excuses to get rid of Nolan, his system just doesn't fit the Dallas personnel...

Proper title for this thread would be "coaching fantasies" until further notice. There's little to suggest Jerry is going to change coaches after this season. That's not his MO.

LOL, very true....but hey, this is a forum and as long as no one gets hurt and no animals are harmed in the making of this forum. We can live our fantasies.

MM may just step down. I get the vibe he is just tired.

Yes just look at what he had coming in: An o-line with T. Smith, Z. Martin and L. Collins. Smith is down a little, but still pretty good. Martin a Pro Bowler for sure. Collins said by many to be a should have been Pro Bowler, just got beat out by guys who go every year and get in by reputation.

Zeke coming off a 1,777 yard, 14 td season (rushing and receiving). Cooper near 1,200 yards, 8 tds and 15 yard average. Gallup 1,100 yards, 16.8 avg and 6 tds. Bringing in his defensive guy, who apparently he had confidence in.

But after the injuries, personnel losses and no preseason, it's nowhere near what he envisioned. Not sure it's tired as he just realizes it's a far bigger challenge than he thought it was going to be, and is just resigned to weathering the storm and having a miserable year, not much fun to look forward to...

Bring in the Urban Legend. Only guy that can change this teams mindset, and get Zekes head out of his you know what.

Go get Dabo Swinney from Clemson. Tell him to bring his crew too.
That coaching staff makes double what this one makes and guys like Saban and Swinney aren't dumb, they have built two of the best sustainable renewable talent systems in college football history, they're not walking away from that to coach in the 20% turnover NFL. Same goes for Mullen and Smart, they're right behind Saban and Swinney.

Meyer wants the NFL because he's burned his major college currency and I don't get Riley at all unless he was just keeping OU on their money toes.

I'm thinking it's most probable that Nolan will be a candidate to be fired, rather than McCarthy!

Knowing how this FO works, however, it wouldn't be surprising if they're both retained in 2021.

If one or both aren't going to be replaced, don't be shocked if another staff is in place by 2022.

I want no part of Zimmer. Ugh.

He's 65 years old. I'd much rather have a younger, more hungry coach with newer ideas.

Added to which, we need to stop the nonsense of bringing back people just because we know them and they had a stint here before. I don't care if it makes the Joneses more comfortable to keep seeing the same old faces at their mimosa brunches.

You think our run defense this year is unacceptable and Zimmer is the man to fix it? Zimmer ran our defense the year we allowed three individual 200-yard rushers in one season. (And that was 2000, after a 1999 season when zero NFL RBs cracked 200 yards in a single game the entire year. We let three of them do it in a single year.) He possesses no magic silver bullet to fix rushing defense.

You think our pass rush isn't good enough and Zimmer fixes it? When Zimmer ran our defense, a common complaint was that our linemen weren't let off the leash because he demanded they wait until they'd played their run-defense responsibilities before they turned their attention to the pass. Greg Ellis played his best football under someone else. Ebenezer Ekuban played his best when he left our team. La'Roi Glover averaged 10 sacks a year in New Orleans, and then we signed him and he averaged 6 sacks a year in his 3 years under Zimmer (I generously excluded his last year here since that was the year we switched schemes). Glover's best seasons here were comparable to his worst season with the Saints. Pass-rushers just never played their best on his watch here.

You think he'll make chicken salad out of chicken **** personnel? When he ran our defense, his defense fell apart the second Darren Woodson was lost. As soon as we asked him to run a defense without the luxury of an all-time great at safety (someone so elite in coverage, he covered wide receivers in the slot like a cornerback routinely), he fell to pieces and was lost in the tall grass.

Ryan Day would be a sneaky nice hire. Not opposed to that idea. Brian Kelly is not leaving that program.
Think Day is leaving OSU? He's just getting started.

There is this misconception that every college HC hungers to be a NFL HC, they all know the Saban, Spurrier and Petrino story too well. Jimmy Johnson was the exception because he got total control of the team but few HC's get that because the owners know the Chip Kelly story.

Eric Bienemy is the only realistic hire on this list. If it were me, I would go hire Dan Mullen from Florida. He knows how to use Dak and maximize talent.

This

I also don’t buy OPs statement on Garrett etc. We have a player problem and a GM problem. I think overall MM is a better coach than JG but players are running the roost right now and know who butters the bread. Until these players are cleared this problem will exist. MM may not work but then it’s due to JJ again hiring a wrong guy like JG.

I highly doubt there will be a HC change, let alone contemplating a move half way through the season.

MM is almost certainly going to have to take the blame . This team has more talent but looks worse under MM and his staff .
This team has more talent? The one with the free agent backup and third string OL and QB plus no Byron Jones?

Biggest Coaching regret isn't firing Red last year or Hiring McCartney/Nolan this year.

I still stand by this today just like I did back in 2015. Once Bill Callahan left the Dallas Cowboys it took our offensive dominance with them. Cowboys OL hasn't looked dominant since he left and hasn't developed any talent as a result. With all the investments Dallas spent at the offensive line position with Connor Williams, Tyler Biadiaz, Connor McGovern, no reason not to think Callahan wouldn't develop them into All Pro guys like he did TFred, Martin, Smith.

Fast forward to 2020 where Bill Callahan is thriving with the Browns as they came into Jerry World and ran all over Dallas putting up 307 average 7.7 while Dallas is searching for answers on the offensive line. I am sure that bridge is probably already burned at this point but Callahan left this team hurt Dallas more than some would like to admit.
