Surgery for the Big C Wed

I just got home. 8 hours of surgery. The most painful thing I've ever had to endure while conscious and with only local anesthetic which hurt like h. e. double hockey sticks when it was given each time - but SHE GOT ALL THE CANCER which had spread more than anyone expected!!! She and her staff were absolutely brilliant and so kind and compassionate.
She was funny, expert beyond a doubt, a musician too! -- the best surgeon ever. I would trust anyone in her caring expert hands... I was in good hands and God's hands every step of the way...........she even allowed my son to be there for the close, the most painful part. All three of us were keys & guitar players and singers and we talked the entire time which helped take my mind off what was going on.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!! Now it's thank heavens for hydro-codone! I'm feeling good now until time for next dose!
I could feel your positive energy the entire time. Thank you all so much my Cowboy brothers and sisters!!!!. :D
That's wonderful news hang in there and keep swinging

Congratulations on the successful surgery! Remember to take it easy on the pain killers. Not only can they be very addictive, but I'd rather have a good degree of pain than the constipation that often comes with those pills.

Thank you!!! Only had 1 when I got home. None today at all :D Trying to grin and bear it unless it gets unbearable.

I have no idea what kind of pain comes with your surgery, but when I got my rotator cuff repaired, I took a pill that night and the next night, just so I could sleep, and it was fine. The doctor said to "stay ahead of the pain" by taking a pill before the last one wore off, but I found it unnecessary. I imagine that's how many people become addicted. Very bad advice, IMO.

Wonderful news and an extra fist pump for you. I lost the light of my life to that monster and get a special lift when others defeat it for it's a coward and hides.

Runny's right, painkillers are really tricky and addictive levels are all different. They usually try to time it out so we take one before the pain starts to arrive so we don't get to that "I can handle this" stage but we also have different pain thresholds too.

Hope your recovery goes well with each day better than the one before it.

I am so sorry my friend. It is indeed a cowardly monster. You're in my thoughts and prayers as well, and know you will not ever be alone. I will keep a luminaria burning.
Kia kaha.

I went through the very same surgery earlier this year and was reliving it as I was reading your post. I'm so happy to read, "she got all the cancer". Let's pray those words hold true when you have your follow-up meeting with your Dr. The coming days will be painful but you can pull through this, thank God for the modern miracle of Hydrocodone. Prayer and positive energy is exactly what you need right now. Awesome update, thank you for posting. :D

Thank you, coming up on 10 years in February but the holidays rip the scab off every year and it never seems to subside.
