I know alot of us are calling for tanking the season... but.. our division sucks.. our defense got better.. and the QB is not entirely hopeless. Even the Oline made a slightly positive move. a few more tweaks, and they might be a challenger.

I understand tanking, but as a diehard.. inside I really want them to win. When the playoffs happen and the way 2020 has been, anything's possible.

Thoughts?

I'm taking a beating on here for wanting them to lose so tread lightly! Be careful, you might be called a fake fan if you are thinking about building for next year and having as strong of draft capital as possible!

but yes, some are in one group, some are in the other

Have you seen Tua, Burrow, Herbert, Kyler?
Tank and don’t think twice... can we give back two wins?

Teams been banged up all year, didn’t have a training camp with a whole new coaching staff, and their franchise QB had his ankle snapped. There’s no good reason to win football games, even if we got in the playoffs - we’d eventually get steam rolled. This happened just 5 years ago and they cashed in on that draft and won 13 games the following season. I see the same thing happening next year.

We heard much of the same thing last season after losing to Philadelphia and beating Washington. Dumb Franchize stuck with the 17th pick when we could have been drafting 14th. You never know what the NFL gods have in store for you, we got great value in that draft. Just give me some blue-chip defensive talent whether we're drafting third, 5th or 10th.

Oh, trust me I get it. I truly never want them to lose. I think I may be saying that to myself to help calm my nerves. The math for tanking is there. 2016 was a year we can arguably say we were 10X better than vs our win/loss. The following year, we picked up a few key pieces and then had a very good year. So if I can get 4-5 good years after a tank.. I get it.. In my heart, I'm pissed at every loss. I also try to look for the positive. I saw that in the last 2 games. Eagles would be a win if we had Gilbert. Yesterday, we were a 2 touchdown underdog. Defense has stepped it up. Need 1 more good corner. I still believe there's a chance.

Or trade for some more picks to setup the following years.

As we saw yesterday, they can play their arses off an still lose. This is a critical year to evaluate progress, development and effort. Can't do that in tank mode. Just play football and let the draft pick fall where will.

I did say a few weeks ago that the rest of the year is one big preseason. Trying to evaluate who we're keeping. /

The future always takes care of itself. Winning and losing always happens in the present.

Personally, I will always want any team or individual sports athlete I support to win. Of course, I could be persuaded to do the opposite as soon as time machines and telepathy become reality. Then I can jump forward in time, mentally command Jerry Jones to make all the decisions I want him to do during free agency and the draft, return to present, root for my team to lose, knowing next season's future is guaranteed.

Dang those fictional time machines and mind control options. Dang them all!!!

Hey, Uncle Rico did find that machine on the internet. He just didn't use the crystals correctly.

its tough dude because you get caught up in the game and when they are actaully doing decent like yesterday its hard not to cheer because thats what you are so used to. I wonder if this is what it feels like to be a browns fan? No wonder they have documented the depression as a result of following the team in Ohio

We will win the division at 8-8, or lose it to the Eagles if they get to 8-7-1.

We have the easiest schedule left, with all the games being winnable except the Ravens game.
Vikings, though they are playing better also like us. FB Team at home, Eagles at home, SF at home, then the Bengals and Giants which my be a tough game.

But 6 of those 7 can be won.

The rest of the NFCE have a much tougher schedule, playing teams with winning records more Ethan losing. I won't go through all their games at this point. But a key game next week is the Giants beating the Eagles. If the Eagles win, then it will be much tougher.

So I can't root for losses to get a top 5 pick, not at this point. However losses will not upset me.

I hope the time machine did not blow up. Crystals can be very volatile. There was that one time when Luke Skywalker loaded his crystal in his lightsaber the wrong way. Blew his hand CLEAN off. :(

Or maybe his father cut off his hand. I forgets.

Keep it competitive and close, but tank. I’m sorry, but I cannot get over what we saw earlier in the season. Even if we continue to play “as well” as we do, we need to continue to tank. Tanking helps in the long run. Blasting ourselves back to the 19th pick will do nothing for us in the long run, which is what we need to do. This season is essentially a lost cause, despite us being in this putrid division.

If we stay in the top 3, we can likely trade down with another team and accumulate some nice picks. I say go OL for the first pick (Sewell is a great prospect), then go Defense the rest of the way. I’m talking a disruptive DT and LB, a good safety and CB to back Diggs. We get all that with 4-5 picks in the next draft next year. Then I say get another DE, and pick up a punter and kicker in free agency.

Waiting for the "past 25 years" crowd to chime in.
As to documented depression.

However I do not go by all the past crap. It is over, so why whine. I am not depressed over it, I just move on to the next season.
It is not a way to go through life, not for me. So I will still root for wins. But not be upset over losses. But at what point do I say, just lose. Now if the Eagles beat the giants next week, and in 2 weeks we lose to the Vikings, yeah it is over. Though it is pretty much over now. So I don't blame those wanting to lose, and will try to refrain from commenting.
Though I also made comments about losing and looking toward the best draft spot.

The thought is having the number 1 pick in this years draft is a potential franchise changer. Wether you believe Lawrence is the next great QB or you fleece another teams draft for the next two years. Either way the ramifications will be much bigger in the long run than winning a meaningless game or an historically bad division to be bounced in the wild card game. Give me the potential franchise changer option.
