Now Troy has said he likes what he has seen in Dak. He has said this several times.

However, last night he said, if you are in position to take one of the QB's at the top of the draft, you must do so. And I can't disagree.

Did anyone else hear this?
What do you all think about it?

I know many will agree, as some will disagree with this statement.

I stated several times, you have to consider it, no way you can not discard this theory.
Yo have a QB that is good to very good, but just seems to be missing something at times. I felt the same about Tony Romo.

So Dak on the verge of being tagged at $37 million or set to make $35 to $40 million a year. Now I won't get into the salary cap ramifications on that, but understand the thinking from many fans about it.
So a franchise QB is there, you get at a 5 year far less impact on the cap.

Can this QB do right away what Dak will do when he returns healthy from his injury. But yet still the same issues, no defense. Though I think a new DC will be better than a 3rd pick overall on defense.

What are your thoughts as of this morning.
Right now, as usual, I will wait until the end of the season, see where we pick. I do like Dak, but I am leaning very much too selecting a QB.
if Lawrence or Fields are there you take a gamble.....but else, you want a QB, a project then you trade down....none of the others are worth to be picked that high....

perhaps we pick a QB that drops and has potential top of the 2nd round....

With worst defense and absolute and historically bad special teams. Team sport, had less to do with Prescott.
I agree. The issue is you have to fix a lot of problems, not Daks talent level. Keep everything the same for 2021 with a couple draft picks, maybe a new DC, and get healthy. Will they be better? Absolutely. Would I expect them to be more than 8-8? Probably not. That’s my concern. I’m just not sure if the cap allows you to retain dak while improving the rest of the roster, and keeps the team in a cycle of mediocrity.

the theory is sound. qb is the most important position on the field. even i you have a top notch starter, you take another one if he's there in the draft. then keep him or trade him for a king's ransom later. look at what we got for steve walsh during jimmy's reign. troy just keeps auditioning for a gm job somewhere.

He is not going to be better than Mahomes, that isn't the point. Mahomes is generational talent. The point is to be than you are now for a fraction of the price for 5 years.
And that's 50-50 at best to happen.

Because it is worth the gamble on Trevor, on Fields, probably, though I see him as another Dak. and yes I watched every game of his. As I am a Buckeyes fan. But I think he is more accurate and has a stronger arm. Therefore he would have to be a strong consideration. As for the other QB's, I don't know.

You could go on about busts, but one can do the same for successes.
Ryan Leaf had more talent than any of these QB's. Even Mahomes. And look what happened with him. You guys don't seem to understand that it takes much more than a strong arm and pinpoint accuracy to even be a starter in the NFL. They have to be smart, have an intense desire to win and have an intense desire to continually get better to be the best. Look at where Brady was drafted and now he's the GOAT.

The Dak plane is in the hangar for maintenance and will be better when the maintenance is over.

I'm not flip-flopping my stance on Dak; but there's no way the Cowboys get Trevor Lawrence anyway.

The Jets and Jaguars aren't getting three wins this year and will pick first and second. And Lawrence and whoever the second best QB in this draft is will be gone because both those teams need a franchise QB.

So this debate is moot. My prediction is it's Prescott on the tag again in 2021.

If we can just have a consistent, top 10-15 defense it would go a long way once the offense is healthy.

Outside of Lawrence, not convinced any of the other guys will be better pros than Dak. Don't get me wrong, I believe they could be, but I don't see a slam dunk here that would make me drop everything and change the entire team

Wilson? Spindly frame, poor competition, looks like he's 10
Fields? Never touched, throws to wide open receivers, long delivery
Trask? Weak arm
Jones? Surrounded by top talent, wide open receivers
Lance? Poor competition, big transition to pros

I don’t get where people think that if you draft QB he’s going to be the next Mahomes. It’s 50-50 he’ll be half as good.
Evaluating a franchise QB has always been difficult. That doesn't mean you shy away from drafting one just because it's "50-50 he'll be half as good."

Aikman was talking a lot of nonsense last night.

[./QUOTE]Wow!, you possess more knowledge about NFL QBs than Troy? Which NFL team do you work for? Or are you analyst on ESPN, or FOX, or NBC maybe?

We have an absolute STUD at QB already. If the last 7 games haven't proven that to this fanbase...nothing will.

Here is a novel concept...lets go heavy on the Defense. That is what we need.
With a record of 6-11 over the last 17 games says a lot more to me than some garbage stats that don’t translate to wins.

Troy has definitively stated that No you don't need a QB in Dallas.
You specifically stated they don't need Trevor Lawrence.

Aikman was talking a lot of nonsense last night.

The ONLY way that it makes sense to draft a QB is if we tag Prescott and get a 1st for him. Otherwise, he should be extended and we don't have a need for a QB, besides a back up.

Agree with this. Theres a coach who loves dak and his names Belichick. He voiced his views on him before last yrs game. Trade Dak for a top 10 pick. ReSign Dalton and draft Sewell and Wilson. You solve your cap issue and draft ur future LT and QB. You have a OL of Tyron|Sewell|Biadasz|Martin|Collins.

Then you have money to improve your defense. You have trade chips like Gallup. Most likely going to lose Gallup in 2022, might as well get something for him now and you still have Cooper Lamb and Wilson as your top 3 wrs.

There are going to be alot of teams that need a QB that arent getting the top 2 guys.

Patriots
Colts
Niners
Panthers
Saints
Bears
Broncos
Falcons

This is why Stephen A. laughs his butt off at some Dallas fans. It took nearly a decade to find Romo. Darn near that long to find Dak. Yet once again some want to go down that black brick road again. Even if you get Lawrence. He may be another Wentz. At least with Dak we know what we have. Then on top of this. I wouldn't want another good young quarterback coming to Dallas. For what? So they can spend Career Ending Purgatory Hell here under Jerry and Stephen? Have a heart will ya.......

I agree, but gambling that you draft a QB that can play at a high level is a big risk.

Thats why you resign Dalton as the stop gap. Or let them compete in TC. I know theres not a bigger Dak fan on this forum than me, but Im a bigger Cowboys fan. I actually think they'll end up signing Dak to a longer deal as im sure he got a reality check with this injury. I think he'll want more injury guarantees.

Id love for Dak to be a lifelong Cowboy, but theres another part of me that would rather have 4 or 5 more players on this team than just Dak. They can free up alot of money with restructures to guys like Tyron, Collins, Lawrence and Cooper. I think its something like 30 mil if they need it.

I also think it gets done because of the report coming out that the nfl isnt going to drop the cap much as they could borrow from future caps which makes sense with the mega tv deal thats bout to happen. Im guessing they plan on taking say 10mil from a couple seasons and keep the cap right around where it is now for a couple seasons.
