The NFL is discussing TV rights deals with its partners that could be for 10 years and far exceed $100 billion in total value, Andrew Marchand of the New York Post has learned.

The end result could be mostly the status quo, except for Thursday nights where Amazon is emerging as a potential front-runner for the package.

Sources said the league and its current partners are working on frameworks for agreements that would keep the Sunday afternoon games on CBS and Fox, “Monday Night Football” on ESPN/ABC and “Sunday Night Football” on NBC. ESPN/ABC is expected to add Super Bowls when all is said and done.

Sunday NFL Ticket is also in play. It is not expected to remain on DirecTV. Amazon, ESPN+ and possibly Apple+ are seen as the leading candidates for the subscription rights to all the Sunday games. The NFL could sell this package to multiple carriers as opposed to DirecTV’s current exclusive contract for $1.5 billion per year.
I'm very interested in seeing what happens to Sunday Ticket. Reasonably priced I'd get it. But for what DirecTV is asking for it now, they can stick it.

Side note - they should allow customers to buy single weekend of games instead of everything or nothing. I would rather stay home and pay for the occasional game the Cowboys aren't on TV in my area than head to BWW and spend more money there.

This is disgusting. Here's what's annoying, the cost of actually going to a game. So not only are they getting rich via TV, but also with in game attendance. I wouldn't mind the $10 hot dogs and $15 beers along with parking and actual time of trying to get there with ticket prices but the games aren't really that good. At some point, the balloon is going to pop and the NFL will hurt. It wont happen tomorrow or in 5 years but it'll happen eventually.

So now I am going to have buy Amazon Prime to stream games? I don't feel bad one bit illegally streaming games.

unfortunately that makes too much sense for the consumer and not enough for directtv since they control the content....but i agree wholeheartedly

And we should be able to buy a season by team at a lower rate. For example buy the Cowboys package and get all their games rather than have to pay for the entire thing.

but but but ratings are down and the NFL will learn!! LOL

Luv when narratives get smashed..

Yep. They are in relative decline, but doing much, much better than other live programming, especially other sports leagues and advertisers are desperate to reach consumers eyeballs.

While the ratings are down, it's still the #1 live event broadcasts on the nets. The problem the nets are having are the rates, which are based on a cost per point, a % of the demographic population.

With the point levels down, the nets have to issue makegoods to achieve the point level or give credit. That's the reason we are seeing more commercials and promos and the NFL will do what they can, including stopping the action, to help the nets recoup their cost. The broadcasts are not sold out so we're seeing more programming promos.

I was going to post the same. Curious to see how this goes.

Be careful they might charge like $40-$50 a game.

And on top of all that, they expect you to pay for the NFL channel if you want to see certain games.

I am interested in this as well. I dropped NFL Sunday Ticket a couple of years ago because it got ridiculously expensive and I had to keep a basic subscription to DirecTV to get the ticket. I cancelled the whole thing. This always seemed like a bad deal for the NFL too. If the NFL sold the NFL ticket to all streaming services they would probably get more money for it, and more subscribers. But I am under no illusion that if AppleTV, Amazon or any other streaming service acquires the rights to Sunday Ticket it is going to be cheaper than DirecTV.

I like some of the idea people are throwing around, like buy a team rather than all the games, or pay for a single weekend instead of for the whole season. But I don't think we will see this. We may see pay per view, or games on demand, but I think whoever obtains the rights will want fully subscribed customers for the most money they can get for a subscription.

They should put Sunday ticket on a streaming platform available to everyone
Business wise it’s stupid to limit it to just one companies customers and a company with a shrinking customer base
I’d put it one a streaming platform, sell a team pkg, even single game pkg
You could really grow revenue
