Merry Christmas!

Here is my first mock of the yr, since it's so early, just the first 4 rd for the Cowboys, including the two expected comp picks. My projection is the current draft slot of 8, which is subject to change:

1-Caleb Farley CB Virginia Tech (elite potential, but needs more polish)
2-Trevon Moehrig S TCU (early on not a fan of the safety class, but he is currently the #1 at the position)
3-Chaz Surratt LB North Carolina (Future Starter at the Mike)
3C-Aidan Hutchinson DE Michgan (See him here in many big boards, can play end and also kick inside)
4-Jordan Davis NT Georgia (2 Down run player who is hard to move)
4C-Tyler Vrabel T Boston College (Developmental Tackle with NFL Bloodlines)
I prefer Surtain but I couldn’t complain about that draft
I don’t know much about Vrabel myself
One and two gets you good players who also fill need and aren’t reaches

I’m a big fan of Farley but the injury history is something to worry about. Especially when drafting in the top 10. I would also prefer Surtain. Moehring I like in round 2. Surratt I’m not as high on as some. Too finesse for my taste.

I like Farley a lot but his injury history scares me in the top-10. I know a lot of people are shying away from Rousseau but I have a feeling he's gonna make them regret it. If we're taking a chance on a talented but raw player who opted out, I think my choice may be Rousseau.

You win.

You could draft all of the Jones grandkids with the rest of the picks and you'd still win.

All indications is Rousseau is a major project on the next level, much further then Farley at this juncture. He is two years away from being two years away!

If Moehrig is gone in rd 2, Bolden has an outside chance of still be available.

Probably so because of bloodline and he is more nfl ready today
I’m hoping both are there but either of the two are starter quality players
Farley does have the most upside, I just like the more sure thing
But either are quality prospects who fill a big need and aren’t reaches
We have lots of needs and either fill one and since I don’t see a DT, or DE there being as good I think either would be a good pick

There are no DT’s that are even close to being worth a top 20 pick. Why would we pick the 3rd or 4th best QB prospect in this draft when we have Dak?

If you’re expecting one of those in the first round you’re going to be real disappointed lol this ain’t the draft for a top 7 pick in the trenches. Not sure if you’ve studied the prospects in this draft or who should be available at our pick.

BPA and need at our pick will probably leave us with a selection of Parsons, Surtain, Farley, and a couple of DE’s (Rousseau, Phillips, Paye).

Because games are won and lost at QB and in the trenches, where we arent close to good enough. Not on the perimeter. And yes I have studied the prospects in this draft. I want Zack Wilson or possibly the DT from Iowa Nixon. All that said Jerry probably drafts the TE from Florida.

Oh I understand the need for trenches just doesn’t match up with who’s available and where we pick. Nixon will not be a top 10 pick at this point. There’s not even a DT mocked in round one on almost all expert drafts. So it’s not really realistic to be looking for the team to pick one in the top 8. Luckily for us there are 4-5 guys in rounds 2/3 that can come in and make an immediate impact in the middle of the line.

Wilson probably won’t make it that far as some have him over Fields and if he does we’ll be trading down. This is the more realistic desire though as there’s a chance the team can’t agree with a deal for Dak and at that point QB becomes the number 1 need.

It's very possible to draft one of the corners and fill the starter need at linebacker sometime during day three. Right now, I think Bolton is the better player then Parsons, but has nowhere near the the upside potential. It's very similar to the Surtain/Farley discussion in my mind, low floor or high ceiling debate.
Bolton will probably be a late first. You are not the only person that thinks he is better the Parsons. Have you seen any corners that we can snag in the second round that could start right away?

He opted out in 2020 so we have no idea how he'd have progressed but he has ALL the tools and produced big-time in his one season on the field. He may be further from his potential than Farley but he's not coming off an ACL tear and hasn't had back issues either. It'd be a risk either way but I'd rather put my money on the supreme talent without the injuries. Just my $.02.

If you have some time, check out Voch Lombardi's film breakdown of him. He's is no scout, but he shows how much his stats were inflated.

Due to Bolton's lack of size and length, he could go anywhere in that 25-40 range. We currently hold pick #45, it's unlikely he's available.

As you know corners always rise due to demand and many teams have them ranked differently. Kendrick/Stokes are late 1st rounders at this time, either would be good if they fell. After them, it appears to be a bigger drop-off. It wouldn't surprise me if the team, used one of their 3rd rounders to move up and land the corner they like the most.

Team has to prepare for anything they may arise. They are going to sign a veteran, swing no matter and still have Knight who has the ability to fill the swing tackle role if needed. Offense was still putting up big numbers with reserves, but the defense cannot stop nobody right now, that's where the focus needs to be.

You are absolutely correct. I think if Wilson is on the board when we are up it’s going to be real interesting. This team knows what they have in Dak. They also know the financial commitment needed to keep him. Wilson is a legit talent and I think is going to be in play if he somehow makes it past the Jets.

This team is going nowhere if we don’t get a lot better in the front 7. I don’t know that Nixon will climb into the top 10, but he is a very good prospect. We need picks and trading into the middle of the round and getting additional picks would be ideal. This draft lacks a lot of top tier talent especially on defense. We need as many good options as possible.
