It's all about context here, and the tape doesn't lie.
Watch the film and the majority of his tackles are 7-10 yards downfield.
Most of those are made after 2-3 other guys have already made the stop.

There's a reason he wasn't voted in the Pro Bowl, the guy is absolute trash as a linebacker.
We've had small guys and we've had slow guys, but going back to the late 70's I don't recall any Cowboys linebacker being this horrible.

3rd in solo tackles...

that’s impressive.

Jaylon Smith is 3rd in tackles (103) among all NFL linebackers and 2nd (39) in assist .

Here is the PFF info

Im not sure what they are looking at but numerous times we have seen Jaylon reacting late or slowing down and getting juked having to turn and go into chase mode. The Dline isnt very good but even when they create a stalemate Jaylon and LVE are just standing there looking through traffic when the RB comes through a hole right next to them. Jaylon hustles but he doesnt move like he did before injury. He also lacks instincts.

I don't pay for pff so not sure what area he grades poor in but his overall grade is 55 which is not good.

Jaylon haters? lol

you mean people who understand real football not fantasy football?
It's easy to tell who the fantasy playing fans are, isn't it? They don't seem to understand context and are unable to see the grey areas in between the extremes. They really believe that "numbers don't lie".

You know the hate Jaylen gets is because he doesn’t look as good as he did a few years ago. When you look around the league....or hell just look at the teams we play...linebacker play just isn’t what it once was. As crazy as it may sound...Jaylon is closer to league average than he is the worst.

For all the jokes on his play, why isn't LVE doing the same? They both make plays down the field, miss gaps, can't get off of blocks. This also says alot about the defensive line. Jaylon, by no means, is elite, but the criticisms heaped on him are laughable, when his counterpart stinks just as bad.

LVE is more likely to be in coverage. At least he theoretically should be.

Contract is one factor. LVE is on a rookie deal, Smith is eating up a decent chunk of cap space. Two, Smith's goofiness rubs people the wrong way........ his bowling dance, the fact he seemingly smiles 100% of the day regardless of how good or bad things are going. Three, a small number of people had issues with him starting businesses - they believed it showed he was not focused on football.

Regardless, he's a mediocre LB at this point. But as you said, so is LVE and LVE gets hurt more. I suspect if LVE signs a big contract and continues to play this way, he'll see more criticism as well.

The thing about Jaylon is if he goes to another team and get a limited role that plays to his strengths he’s probably a pro bowler. He get a ton of TFL and sacks.
