Free Safety In Cowboys History

After seeing the abomination this year has been @ FS....makes you wonder what would have happened if we would have signed Earl Thomas?

Could it really have been that much worse?

On a positive note though....I think we have found our strong safety for the future in Wilson. He plays much better down in the box.

Other than Pat Watkins, Xavier Woods is the worst free safety in Cowboys' history. Overrated, drafted in 6th round for a reason. He has been so bad this year, I swear, Jimmy Johnson would have cut his *** after showing the team on video how bad he was, missing tackles, overrunning plays, allowing wide receivers to blow past him. Even Jeff heath would have been better.

With the team winning lately, they no longer can trade down for a greta bundle, so just take the best CB on the board. There will be a rush to get the top 5 QB's, Sewell, top OT's, so one of the top corners shoudl still be there.

High in the 2nd round, the Boys can get a real good safety, and they must get one, after hopefully taking a CB in the first round. I encourage the team to sign a bonanza free agent, DT Leonard Williams from the Giants. He has finally become a dominant DT and at 6'5", fits the nold of taller DT's this team needs. He can single-handily improve the secondary with his high number of inside QB pressures. Let Gallimore and Trysten Hill rotate at the other DT position.

Sign our free safety early, get him into camp and learn fast. We need him to assert himself early. We must have dramtically improved free safety play. Donovan Wilson has shown enough to grow with him at strong safety.

Good post and I cannot wait to see the combine results. It will be interesting to see if there are high SPARQ safeties whose tape shows instinct.

Yeah. He was very good in 2007. OK the following year and then the bottom fell out. It's pretty sad how we haven't had a FS since to even come close to the level Hamlin played at in 07.

Absolute wrong take.

It's a passing game now. You need Corners, Edges, and a Safety with ball skills.

You can get by with DT's Strong Safety, and Linebackers (especially Sam), although you don't want suspect guys or weak links at any position.

They tried to get a star FS with Byron. Super freak who unfortunately had no knack for zone coverage and playing over the top.

We should have stuck with Heat at FS after 2017. They gave it to Woods instead, and look at how well that turned out.

Heath's speed, smarts, and hands always played best as an over the top FS, and he was getting the knack for breaking on balls. Instead, they played him in the box more and more, where his poor agility and stiff hits were most exposed.

Another player wasted by the Cowboys. Sad.

70.7 PFF with Oakland this year.

I hope the Broncos let Justin Simmons hit free agency. Him paired with Donovan Wilson would be a legit upgrade.

Brock Marion was a really good tandem with Woodson and had a pretty good career with Miami if memory serves!

Yeah, Marion went to at least one pro bowl with Miami. Marion, Ken Norton, and Ron Stone were the three guys they shouldn't have let leave in free agency.

Demarcus Willams will be a FA. Word has it Saints will prioritize Lattimore and Ramstyck and will have to let him go. Bad news after the season he’s had they’re expecting his value to be 14 to 15 annually!

I don’t remember anything of Stone other than he sucked in pre season games. Was surprised when he turned into a player in Pitt!

@Proof :muttley: How about we make the Chargers an offer, LVE for James? The Chargers just might go for it. Who knows? They both have been injured. Maybe the Chargers will just cut James. Chargers are cheap.
