I still want Marvin Lewis

27 years of NFL experience and being co-DC in college-- the Sun Devils finished with the top-ranked scoring defense in the Pac-12 at 23.2 points per game and tied Utah for the most turnovers forced with 13 despite playing just four games. They also ranked among the top four teams in the league for interceptions (five) and pass defense efficiency.

Another safety name to remember is Keanu Neal. Super talented but often injured. Won’t cost too much to bring him in.

He was drafted by Dan Quinn

I personally did not know Dan Quinn was at Florida prior to joining Seahawks... where he Ran a multiple Defense some 3-4 and 4-3 depending on opponent and play. hopefully he brings that to our defense.

Is that what got him the thumbs up from MM?

Yes, hire the guy that Cowboys had greatest comeback against. Maybe he is head coach in 2022.

Nope, not buying that. Booger gave him his chance with his staff, now he will have Booger's choice for DC on his staff. And you can bet on Booger's list of requirements was "former HC".

Quinn brings one thing that Booger values highly because he experienced that first hand in college, a coach the players like playing for and will push themselves to please.
If he gets the job this totally a Jerrah hire. If and when he fires MM, it will make it easier to hire Kellen as coach.

I know you're joking but if he's hired, it's not a reach to think Earl Thomas or Richard Sherman to Dallas talks could surface

  • RICHARD SHERMANDB, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Contract-year CB Richard Sherman doesn't expect to re-sign with the 49ers.
Sherman, who doesn't have an agent, said his doubts about remaining with the 49ers are based on the salary cap and conversations with the team. San Francisco is expected to prioritize extensions for LT Trent Williams and LB Fred Warner this offseason, leaving them with limited cap space. 32-year-old Sherman spent nine weeks on IR with a calf injury, but has been productive when healthy, posting 14 tackles and an interception in three games. The five-time Pro Bowler will have interest from teams if he reaches free agency.

I would not be opposed to both players being brought in as transition players. Of course, I'd rather we bring in someone like Justin Simmons at safety (as well as a younger corner), but I can't see the Joneses spending what it would take to get him. Sherman and Thomas could bridge the gap while we try to find their replacements and keep us from being absolutely wedged into taking a corner in the first round.

We've got to fill some of the spots with defensive free agents, and with the Joneses' penchant for not spending big on outside FAs, Sherman and Thomas might be our best bets for stopgaps.

Well, it's not a super sexy hire but it's also not that bad IMO. No matter who the coach, this defense needs some injection of talent, so let's hope that is a major focus this offseason as well.

You cannot deny Quinn's experience in the NFL. He has seen the high of a Super Bowl win, the low of losing one, and everything in between. That's quite the spectrum of experience.

In today's NFL as offenses continue to get more creative and explosive and the rules favor the offense over the defense, I think you need more creative coordinators who are willing to take more risk on defense.

Quinn ain't that. He's a re-tread. I mean he's probably better than Nolan but that's not saying much. Would be a typical uninspiring hire by Jerry, but at this point, after witnessing his handling of coaches for the last 20 years, why should I expect anything different?

I don’t necessarily disagree with your assessment, but we gotta really stop overusing retread. That should be reserved for lifers who’ve had a million lives with a bunch of teams. Quinn was a successful DC and an unsuccessful hc. Would classify him as experienced, not retread

Another retread. The last Seattle guy we had calling the defense stunk it up, as well.

I dont know who the best candidate is at this point but the one thing we know for sure is, regardless of who is hired, there is going to be alot of unhappy people here.

i'd much rather chance a retread who has had a very successful proven record as a pure DC ...than a new my buddy McCarthy hire and
a poor record for the position roles they had in their respective teams ...

One fact and something to chew on...Marvin Lewis drafted Andy Dalton if I am not mistaken and the 2 have a mutual respect for each other. Could HE be the hire on D and might that relationship help sway Dalton to stay on another 1 year deal?

Didnt he also get to a Superbowl as the HC of Atlanta in his first or second year?

more so wasn't he the DC of Seahawks that put them in Super bowl in back to back seasons ?
it's not his HC role and performance in ATL that i'm interested in, but more so his role and performance in the position the Cowboys are most interested
in as a pure DC.
