2021 NFL Draft: Ranking the top five players at each position

QUARTERBACK
  1. Trevor Lawrence, Clemson
  2. Zach Wilson, BYU
  3. Justin Fields, Ohio State
  4. Trey Lance, North Dakota State
  5. Mac Jones, Alabama
Zach Wilson at No. 2 in our quarterback rankings and on the PFF draft board might turn some heads. That’s how physically gifted he is, though, and how well he played this season. Just look at the arm talent and placement on these throws.

how he’s always able to get his head around and find the ball in flight to make a play.-Farley,

This has been the issue for years with our corners. Adding Farley with Diggs, who has proven he can locate the football, would translate into two playmakers at the position. Believe both were former wide receivers. Now if we can only find a playmaking Free Safety to join Wilson at the position, our secondary would become one of the biggest strengths on the entire team.

If everything is equal and both Surtain and Farley are there, I think they'll go, Farley. Fish did a piece on Quinn's Podcast interview. In it, he talked about what he was looking for in his CBs and he mentioned Richard Sherman like triads, meaning smart with excellent ball skills. I'll see if I can dig it up ....

Farley is the far risker prospect when you consider Surtain, has NFL Bloodlines, played on the #1 program in the country, has no durability concerns and is advanced beyond his years on the technical standpoint.

In my opinion, Surtain is good starting corner day 1 in this league, but this is probably the best we are going to see him. Many have compared him to Bryon Jones. He will be a shadowy, sticky corner, but won't make many plays on the football. Not worried so much about his lack of deep speed, but rather him facing a small/quick type of receiver. I know they cannot workout the players, but if they could, I would have him cover Amari Cooper, let's see him handle his quickness in and out of his breaks.

Farley is new to the position, needs some development, has durability concerns, but has that natural talent you cannot teach. He has the ability to match-up against any type of receiver, with legitimate ball skills being a former wide receiver. He has the look of a future #1 CB who can travel and match-up against the opponent's #1 receiving threat. Any time you take an high upside prospect, it's important that they have the want to be great, everything I've heard about him is he is always working on his craft, looking to get better. Might have a similar up and down season like Diggs had, but towards the end of yr 1, could be special.

I’ve got Darrisaw ahead of Slater an OT.

I know it’s in vogue to say Slater’s 6’3 frame and 32”-33” arm length won’t matter on the outside but it does. I think he’s tailor-made to fit inside ala Zach Martin.

I too, see a similar player to Zach Martin. However, I think both Slater/Martin would just been fine as Tackle's due to their great technique.

My two favorite DTs are rated #2 and #3, and I'm wondering if the Cowboys will even get a sniff of Alim McNiel in the 2nd round???

I think they would take Surtain. He is younger then Farley, played football last season, played for a professional college program, has bloodlines and he has a relationship with Diggs. The guy is a walk in starting cornerback the first day of many camp.

I agree. I think the way this off season is going to unfold, player evaluations are going to be difficult. Especially the guys that opted out who have had a serious injury in the past. There really is very little to question about Surtain. In a draft like this there is value in getting a like him.

I've talked myself in to Surtain over Farley for now, just because there are risks to Farley and every defensive player we gamble on seems to blow up in our face.

I turned on tape of Darrishaw for literally 2 minutes the other day and could tell that he is going high first round. Guys who are 6'5" 315 and move like he does are exactly what the NFL is looking for. I'll have to watch Slater to compare him to, but there is no way that Darrishaw falls out of the top 20 with all the LT-needy teams out there.

I've got Leatherwood as the #1 OT. His athleticism, physical build, technique, and experience are all at a blue chip level. I see a lot of Tyron Smith in him.
