Stafford had Calvin Johnson and sill couldn't do anything. People saying he is an upgrade over Dak is just trolling at this point.

As many Dak defenders will claim, one player doesn't make a team and Detroit has never had a really good defense.

Stafford would be one of the better guys to come available but I just can’t see him ever doing much more than he has regardless of the team around him. He seems like a more talented Kirk Cousins to me. And what’s worse, he isn’t getting any better. He is what he is at this point. Dak is still improving. Sure, contractually itd be a great move but I’d pay quite a bit more for Dak if I have to choose. Dak is younger, better leader, mobile. Stafford here would be like a better version of Dalton, which to me was painful to watch. I wouldn’t turn in my fan card if we pulled something like this but I would be skeptical we’d be any better.

Look at the QB stats comparing Dak and Stafford since 2016 (Dak's rookie season. The stats are near identical so Stafford would offer similar stats as Dak without all the dead money.

He is also 5 years older and at the tail end of his career.
