Anyone else high on this kid? I think that's another good possibility at 10 in a position of need. I have the following 4 guys in no particular order:

-Patrick Surtain CB
-Christian Barmore DT
-Micah Parsons MLB
-Caleb Farley CB

Loved to trade back into the first round to get him along with a small trade down for Surtain, Farley, Collins, JOK or Parsons.

Think it will be Farley or Surtain........

10 is way too rich. Many see him as a top 25 player. Right now he is more of a nickel, interior rusher with upside to become a quality 3 down player

I love the position. I think interior DL is an area of need and that a dominating presence inside would do as much as anything at any position to help improve the defense.

Having said that, I’m unsure on Barmore. The only time he really played great was the last couple of games this year and then the two playoff games. I wonder why it took so long. It could be that he’s just a very young player and it was all starting to click for him at the end of 2020. In that case, it looks really good for him. Did he not turn it on until the games really got important? I don’t know.

So, while I want to like him because I want a dominant DT at pick 10... I also like to see great play in college for more than one season. I certainly want to see it for more than just the last four college games he ever played. Great college players usually break out sooner than that. Now, that doesn’t mean that his improvement won’t continue into his pro career, but it does worry me for a top 10 pick.

So, at this early point, I’m undecided on how I feel about Barmore.

A DT that I like more than him (again, at this early point) is Nixon. I really like his play and while he only did it for one year in college, it was a year that he won BIG 10 defensive player of the year and was pretty dominant from start to finish. He’s strong, plays the game behind the line of scrimmage, and is very athletic for a guy over 300 lbs.

I also like Iowa players. Those coaches are no-nonsense teachers who like (and start) smart, tough players and don’t put up with any BS. The guys who come out of there are usually ready for the NFL and perform well early on.

Had Nixon had his season playing at Alabama (and Saban tried hard to convince him to come to Tuscaloosa), he would be talked about way more.

Anyway, I’m not saying that I don’t like Barmore... I’m just saying that I’m still unsure. After pro-days and the testing done there, I will probably have a better handle on if I’m willing to use the 10th overall pick on Barmore (or Nixon), or if I’d rather go with a different position.

He is growing a fan base. @stilltheguru and @WillieBeamen are very high on him

He is an ascending player right now. His value seems to in the 20's, but that can go up during workouts. People have to remember that player values are gonna fluctuate alot from now till the draft. With Barmore and his upside and his ability as an interior rusher, I could see him possibly ending up between 8-15 with a good offseason. He reminds me alot of Muhammad Wilkerson

Its all about how he works out imo. If his 3 cone and shuttle are good he'll be a top 15 pick.

A lot of people on here are going to be severely letdown, imo. As @AsthmaField pointed out, a stud 3t would do wonders for this defense, everybody here knows it and has been longing for that guy for many years.

The problem is, the front office doesn't know that 3t is a massive hole on this roster. They will go into next year w Gallimore, Hill, and maybe sign Mccoy and think they are good. Anybody hoping for a big investment at the 3t position is in for a major letdown. Of course, that's just my opinion.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is picked higher than a lot of current draft boards. He seems to be getting better, the last few games were against some future high pick NFL linemen and he did very well. He's so young that you have to count what he did lately more than what he did earlier. So his ceiling is very high apparently. Could be one that you would regret passing on.

I love his game. But he is still raw and came on strong very late In the year.

Id love a small move down and get him. Sign Poona Ford (or any solid 1T) and we will have a top 5 DL next year

He's a trade back candidate. If I could slide into the late teens, early 20s and pick up a couple of extra picks in 2nd and/or 3rd round, he'd be a top target for me in that range.

For example, in one of those mock simulators, I traded the 10th for the 20th, 52nd and 83rd.

20th - Barmore, DT
44th - Stokes, CB
53rd - Eichenberg, OT
75th - Grant, S
83rd - J Smith, DE (UAB)
100th - Tuipulotu, DT
108th - Adebo, CB
140th - Rice, LB

I agree that an upgrade at 3T would be nice, but IMHO, the bigger need at DT is the 1T. We basically have no one that is even considered average. We need a fire plug who can stuff the run and demand double teams. Add that player to the 3T's we currently have and I think you'll see vast improvement there and in the defense in general.

Totally agree. The maddening thing about 1t, is you can find a good one quite easily. The problem is, this franchise doesn't know what a good 1t is.

Way too inconsistent to be taken at 10.

Good upside as a nickel rusher but needs to round out his game to be a legit first rounder.

I'd much, much rather have someone like Wilson or McNeil in the 2nd than Barmore in any type of trade down in the 1st.

Trying to optimize 5-10 slots is ridiculous. If Barmore is THE GUY that changes this defense, just take him. I'm not sure of that. Kind of think a good CB isn't a bad play, and come back around for round 2 and get a DL player that can help. John Owing identified a bunch on one of his podcasts:

For the love of God, no to Eichenberg. He SUCKS. Stiffer than a guy who’s swallowed 3 blue pills.
