Apologies if there has been a similar thread (I was unable to find one) but is it time that the NFL considered changing the draft format to follow a similar path as the NBA to avoid teams intentionally tanking for premium picks to maintain the integrity of the league?

I'm all for it.

Lottery system would be great.

It's not fair if one team sucks but is fighting their tail off to win and another team just shows up to collect a check and the best pick.

Other than what went on in the Phil/Wash game, there was no tanking in the league.

It was all fan discussion. Its not a league issue

?

The Jaguars and Jets were both absolutely tanking. The biggest difference from other leagues is that teams do it in the offseason.

Yeah they probably did.

But the Jets played their way out of that pick in the end.

It just doesn't happen often enough for it to be a problem.

The NBA only has five starting players. One can make much more of a difference.

Again, not saying that a Luck or Lawrence wouldn't make a difference, but it doesn't happen often enough to call it a problem IMO.

If the Jets were tanking why would they allow their team to win games to hurt their chances of drafting Lawrence.

The NFL isn't the NBA, where Basketball sitting 1 star player could be the difference for being really competitive to really bad. NFL has 22 starters, plus special teams.

Let the worst teams get the higher picks. I hate the lottery system.

Players don’t tank anyway, it’s just a matter of management putting worse/younger players on the field. Once said management acquires more talented players they will play them, eliminating the fear of 3-4 year tanks.

Also, the NFL might be the only league where you can go from 4-12 to 10-6 (top 5 pick to playoffs) in one offseason. Large scale tanking is a non issue.

I'd be afraid the Cowboys would get the same lottery luck that the Dallas Mavs have had. It has been a pure nightmare for them.

... because players play. They still purposely decimated the roster. Have we forgotten how the Raiders game ended?

If they tanked against the Raiders, why did Williams get fired after that game?

Because the Jets are stupid idk.

I can't believe I'm reading someone suggest that the Jets made a legitimate effort to win games this year lol

They won several games down the stretch. They didn't bench any of their starters. It's pretty clear they did not tank.

"Several"

They were 2-14. They didn't have any starters to bench because they were all terrible to begin with. You don't go into a season with the offensive roster they had and say "you know what, we're trying to make the playoffs." That was a tank roster, through and through.
