The Dallas Cowboys could be looking to the SEC for some improvement with their running back group as the team met with Mississippi State rusher Kylin Hill at the Senior Bowl, per NFL Network’s Jane Slater. The Cowboys also conducted meetings with Houston defensive end Payton Turner and Miami pass rusher Quincy Roche according to Slater’s report. This is likely far from an exhaustive list of all the players the Cowboys connected with while in Mobile.

Kylin Hill
School: Mississippi State

Position: RB

5-11, 210lb (180cm, 95kg

Pros (+): Rocked up upper body and has the arm size of rushers bigger than his listed body size. Muscular and round legs plus a stout trunk that help him break tackles when defenders attempt to take out his legs. Strong shoulders and core help him run through arm tackles and shake off reaching or lunging last resort players. As a result of his mature figure, he often tries to lower his shoulder to finish runs. Not a running back that will be able to cut on a dime and quickly change directions in an instant. Notices his deficiencies by stuttering his feet repeatedly to speed up the mind and tempo of defenders before choosing his plan of attack. Has employed quick jump overs, one-hand swipes, aggressive dead legs in both directions and shown aggression with trying to run through contact in order to gain extra yardage. Wastes little time with making decisions and is quick with making his decisions on some plays that may require some patience. Always goes with his first instinct and hardly ever second guesses his initial decision. Some instances of where he presses the front-side and feels cutback lanes, but it is not a primary objective for him. Keeps most of his runs on the designed side.

EDGE PAYTON TURNER

PROSPECT SUMMARY - PAYTON TURNER
Payton Turner suffered a knee injury that kept him off the field as a high school senior which limited his recruiting options. While there was interest, the only major school to offer him a scholarship was Houston. He came to Houston at around 215 pounds before he reached 290 early in his career and then trimmed down to around 270 by the end of his career. The Cougars played him all across the defensive line, even as a standup outside linebacker at times. At the next level, Turner is best suited to play 4-3 defensive end but also has the length needed to serve as a 5-technique in a 3-4 front. The best components of Turner’s game are his length, physicality, power, hand combatting skills, and motor. Those traits give him appeal as a pass rusher and run defender. With that said, he needs to clean up his stance, release from his stance, pad level, processing skills, and develop more rush variety. Turner is a versatile defender that has the ability to develop into a meaningful starter. With that said, development is needed and he may not contribute much right away early in his career.

Ideal Role: 4-3 base end or 3-4 5-technique that gets chances to rush on the interior on long and late downs.

QUINCY ROCHE HT 6'3" WT 243 lbs

After three seasons at Temple that culminated with him earning AAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2019, Quincy Roche leveled up and transferred to Miami for the 2020 season. While his statistical output in 2020 in the ACC doesn’t quite measure up with the monster production he had at Temple in 2019, Roche did prove that he is still a dynamic defensive playmaker against top competition. Roche is a true technician for the position that is polished with his hands, has great vision, and is a quick processor. While he is lean and has modest length, he overcomes any physical deficiencies with technique, flexibility, athleticism, and above-average functional strength for an EDGE of his size. If Roche truly measures in the 240-pound range, he will likely be viewed as a 3-4 outside linebacker, which is fine given his experience in a standup position and his performance in college. Roche has an expansive pass-rushing skill set and is a good run defender, making him a balanced defender that can contribute on every down. In the right scheme, Roche has the ability to develop into a productive starter that knows how to attack the pockei

I think they should take a day three running back every year and he's the one I've been picking in mock drafts.

The RB looked awesome but everyone looks great in highlight videos.
He runs like Zeke was supposed to.

Agreed. I take a RB in round 4 in pretty much every mock draft simulation

Based on the discussion in another thread, sounds like a perfect fit for our defense

I thought I read somewhere we had interest in UCLA’s RB Demetric Felton. Felton is a sleeper IMO. Bruglar mentioned he’s switching over to WR.

Oh, no! Are the Cowboys going to pick a DE in the first round again? They have not drafted any other position in the 1st round more than DE since 1992, or since 2000. Jerry loves pass rushers no matter how soft his interior defensive line is.

No, not in 1. If he does we’re done. We need FS or CB in the 1st.

I like this........ or we could just find a sucker for Elliott and draft a RB a bit higher.
