I would like to double dip at the position if the board works out that way. Defense is so bad, we can make an argument that they could double dip everywhere except maybe edge, but you can never have enough pressure guys.

The Cowboys need an inside pass rush and stoutness against the run. But their weakness against the run was not just inside. It appeared to me their biggest weakness in the running game was outside the tackles. I swear our LB were too slow getting to the outside. Just upgrade wherever they can at any position they can.

For what I gather Quinn's scheme plays his Strong-side backer on the line of scrimmage. A linebacker like Browning does an excellent job setting an edge.

Good thing is the scouts were probably looking for NT's for Nolan's Defense, Quinn scheme needs a similar type player. I could see an interesting debate occurring in rd 2: due they take the best player? do they fill their biggest need or do they take the highest positional valued prospect? For me, the hardest decision would be if Moehrig/Grant and McNeil/Nixon are all available who would they take? I would probably lean taking a Safety.
Yeah, it might come down to something just like that. If Nixon happened to be there at our second round pick, obviously I would want to pick him. What would the team do though? That we don’t know yet. Quinn might really want to fill that FS spot, and I’d be ok with that because I like Moehrig and Grant a lot... but I do want an IDL to make that up front unit a pain in the *** to opposing offenses. IMO, that is key to really great defense.

Ugh... I’m ready for the draft now.

I believe everything points to taking a corner at 10, I have my doubts they take an off the ball linebacker or a Tackle if they keep the pick. Which position has the biggest drop-off DT or Safety, if they in fact do consider those positions; Moehrig/Grant...Washington, Nixon/McNeil..Shelvin/Wilson maybe Tufele. I think Safety would fall off the cliff, especially Free Safety, where there still could be some options later on at DT.

That is sound logic.

I agree 100% that, at this point, it looks like a corner at 10 is the smart guess. The board is just falling that way and corner is a definite need. To expect a franchise that hasn’t spent big at DT or S, to suddenly use a top 10 pick at one of those positions when there isn’t even a DT or S prospect rated that highly, is simply a fool’s errand.

I also think an off-the-ball LB is a bit of a long shot too because one, they aren’t that impactful in most 43 schemes and, two, the team doesn’t want to give up on either Smith or LVE.

So I agree that at 10 it looks like CB with the 2nd/3rd rounds being the best options at S/DT.

Of course if they have a “blinking light” BPA situation like they had with McGovern, that could change things in a hurry. In that case, they might end up with TE Pitts - OT Eichenberg - CB Adebo, lol.

I wouldn’t be that shocked.

How I rank the DT's:

1-5: Any available DT's in this years draft.
6-10: Our current DT's

Where is the love for Bobby Brown? Another guy....Ta'Quon Graham 6-4, 294 Texas

I rank the DT's that fit us best like this:

3T 1T
Levi McNeil
Barmore Shelvin
NIxon Brown
Tufele Tonga

*I really liked Scott coming out of Oregon, but he is staying in school.

I think Gallimore is going to turn into a solid starter...but I think he's a better pass rush type than run defender. We really, really need someone that can anchor and impact the run game as we've been ignoring that type for years.
They were 4th against the run in 2018 and t-8 in 2019. The run defense has been fine until this year.

Coincidentally, this is the year they signed Poe - one of these "anchor and impact the run" players.

The other USC DT needs to be added as well as the one from UCLA. Where do you see Marvin Wilson?

TBH, I'm not very high on him. He seems to have regressed, or at not progressed plus his senior bowl practices didn't help his cause IMO.

A lot of varying opinions on him. I would certainly take the gamble at a certain point, cause he once was considered a top prospect at the position. Maybe it was an injury, maybe something personal, but talent is there.

Quinton Bohanna in 6th round or so? He’s definitely the huge run stuffer all of us have been clamoring for. I’ve seen predictions on rounds 4-6 for him. I’d love to pick him up late in the draft.

Clearly the team needs major help at the DT position, along with Quinn's scheme calling for more of a 4T at LE, which is similar to playing a third DT.

Let's try to rank them based on the Cowboys specifically:

1) Barmore (hybrid can play 1, 3 or 4-best skillset as an interior rusher)
2) Onwuzurike (was dominate in 1 day of practice, might be the best pure 3 in the class)
3) Nixon (had a huge breakout season, is a 3T only prospect)
4) Tufele (another hybrid, did play some 4T at USC, but can play any spot)
5) McNeil (played 0T/NT and offers some pass rush abilities)
6) Wilson (might be too high, but was once considered a top 20 prospect)
7) Togai (can play the 1 or 4T roles, more of a 2 down player)
8) Shelvin (your prototype NT, who cannot be moved, but offers zero pass rush)
9) Tuipulotu (hybrid, potential 3 down player)
10) Slaton (see Shelvin)

Just missed the cut: Odighizuwa, Tonga

How would you rank them and who do you want?
1 and 3 are the only DTs I’d select anywhere in round 1. Nixon would be my top choice.

By the way, I’m not saying this should be all we do at DT. I’d like to get a higher rated tackle much earlier in the draft AND a big 1tech/NT run stuffer as well (such as Bohanna).
