Slater immediately starts at guard. He is a lockdown, stonewall, beast. It's scary how he manhandled Chase Young. Why would you not want that guy at Left Guard knowing when Tyron misses games you can move him to his natural position or the fact having a tackle coming off hip injury is horrifying. So you have Collins covered.

It's the most logical and safest pick.

I like Barmore and Surtain but I love Slater and how he's lowkey a great prospect at tackle even with his short arms.

-floor: o-line that is stable and no longer cripples offense
-ceiling if Collins/Smith return healthy: Great Wall 2

Slater guy reminds me of Martin. He doesn't destroy guys, just makes them look like helpless children.

When you pay most of your oline second contracts that’s the time to use lower round picks to develop players
Oline is one of the easiest and safest draft picks
Stats show you can get starter quality linemen through the 3rd round fairly successfully compared to other positions
Why keep using picks we need for defense on oline
Unless Collins and smith are done it makes no sense to pass on a starter quality defensive player for a OT
If you have a smith type prospect when he came out that’s one thing but slater is not a smith type prospect

If a tackle is by far the best player I’m taking him but all things being equal or close I’m going defense in first and I don’t see any realistic scenario where a tackle will be the best player on the board at 10

8.8 in dead cap vs 14 cap hit...not that much cap relief. After next year it’s 5 dead vs 15 cap hit.

To me I think you have to stick with Tyron 1 more year (provided he’s medically cleared obviously). His play is still very good and his salary cap hit is actually extremely reasonable for a LT.

You can still draft a LT if the prospect is the best available to play LG and eventually take over for Tyron.

It would have been 11 million in savings this year had they not added to their missteps by extending him for cap room.

6) Rashawn Slater, OT
School: Northwestern | Year: Senior

Slater is a slightly undersized tackle prospect. He plays with outstanding knee bend, foot quickness and balance. He explodes out of his stance in the passing game and does an excellent job of re-working his hands to maintain inside position. Slater gives a little ground versus power before dropping his weight and anchoring late. His best trait is his ability to recover when he finds himself in a bad position. In the run game, he plays with quickness and urgency when working up to the second level. He takes great angles and is one of the best I've seen when it comes to cutting off linebackers. He doesn't have elite power to knock back defenders over his nose, but he does a good job of running his feet and staying attached. He has excellent awareness. Overall, Slater might lack ideal length, but it doesn't hinder him and I believe he can excel at left tackle. If a team chooses to play him inside, he should quickly develop into a Pro Bowl guard.

16) Trevon Moehrig, S
School: TCU | Year: Junior

Moehrig has adequate size, but excellent versatility and instincts. He can play in the deep post or cover in the slot. He is a smooth, fluid mover in man coverage underneath. He also possesses ideal anticipation and range from the back end. He has the ability to consistently match patterns and position himself for plays on the ball. The former TCU star does need to improve his finishing ability, having dropped a couple interceptions in the games I studied. He takes quality angles in run support and is a reliable, low tackler. Overall, Moehrig offers a complete skill set at the position. He will provide his defensive coordinator with options, which is exactly what's desired in 2021.

I do like both picks and really can't go wrong but the two in the 3rd and one in 4th need DT, LB, CB not in any order

Reaching for need gets you Taco. False sense of achievement but then you realize you have what the bird left on the fence post.

Drafting for need also can get you Frederick if you do it right. I want Dallas to take a DT in the first round because we've neglected that position. I do not want us to take a DT at No. 10 unless all the so-called draft experts are just completely wrong about their value.

I know Kiper was hyping Daviyon Nixon as the 10th-best prospect for a while there, but he seems to have backed off of that and I haven't seen anyone outside the ESPN experts put him that high.

Its logical if Collins or Tyron are retiring anytime soon. Otherwise I Don't understand the pressure to find a OT right now.

Don't like it. I think Slater is a decent prospect, but feel like he's being bumped in mocks simply due to the dropoff after Sewell. I think Tyron comes back unless he retires - he's really not that expensive at $10M a year.

Next year looks to be a pretty strong year for OT in the draft.

This is my argument. Why is everyone so pressed to find a tackle now? I can easily wait a season to do that in a much better class.

Slater would make our offense one of the best in football. Great pickup!!!

I was against it until I heard Brooks break this down like this, and it would be an immediate upgrade to the OL and would get us back to being a dominant run team that can pass at will. Then if and when Smith goes down we still have depth by bringing in Williams. I must admit it would be hard to pass on Surtain his pedigree and play would be instant impact as well.
