So basically Jerry hasn't gone after a game changing player since 1994, which is over 26 years ago. What on earth makes you think he will suddenly change course and do that now?

I think he also pissed away first and a third round pick for Roy Williams.

Chuckles won't let him....it cuts into his inheritance

Will McClay, Dan Quinn & McCarthy will sway his mind.

If you cut Crawford, it frees up 10 million.
The salary was projected to be lowest around 175 million but few cap websites are now projecting the floor to be around 185 million. If true that opens up additional 10 million.

Jerry can also put in a phantom year on Dak’s contract with portion of guaranteed money in it.

Crawford's a FA. His contract expired. Jerry missed the opportunity to cut him. However, we may be able to get a comp pick for him if someone else signs him. However, after we extend Dak, I've got no issue with us making a play for Simmons. That'd make our draft easier. However, I have Surtain or Farley rated higher than Simmons imo. With that said, I'm preferring a trade down, so I'd happily take Simmons if he's a FA.

i think the game changer would be DT dalvin tomlinson.
the S i want is ucf's richie grant.

I was high on Dalvin Tomlinson when he was supposed to be drafted. Unfortunately, we had a coach by the name of Rob Marinelli who hated 1T DTs rendering Tomlinson a player for us to pass on.

Last time ole Jerry went after a game changing player it got him a SB. Jerry should go after Justin Simmons to take this defense to another level like he did with Deon Sanders.

Simmons is better than any safety the Cowboys have but he's no Deion as far as game changer. Sanders was hands down the best corner in the league and 2nd wasn't even close.

Still, I get the premise that @Dak_Attack_09 is making. Simmons would be a huge improvement for us, and I think he's a better S than anyone in the draft. So, signing him would be a great decision.

And, having looked on Google, Simmons is a FA, and I think he's a better S than anyone in the draft. The best S in the draft is injured from what I can see from Syracuse, and we do need to fix S. Simmons would upgrade S. Pairing him with Wilson would give us a great S duo. Then come back and take a CB in a trade down in rd 1, and I think we would have a dangerous secondary. Then, depending on how we play the draft, I'd go OT and DT with the next 2 picks.

Going to be a lot of one year deals this year for a lot of vets. Plenty to be had out there folks.

The only problem is that every simulator that I'm doing has the Broncos resigning Simmons. However, it has him signing with the Broncos for 4 years at $12,500,000 per year. If we sign Dak for say 35-37mil for 5 years at 65% guaranteed and assuming Denver doesn't resign Simmons, we can make the Simmons signing work if that were about how much he'd want. However, he'd be the only FA we can sign. On the bright side, as stated, he's the best S in FA and is better than the safeties in the draft.

One player away?
Signing Simmons wouldn't change the fact that the Cowboys still have 4 picks in the top 100 come April.

Let's say 3 if them can contribute on defense.

Does 4 new players on defense make us better?

Signing Simmons isn't "one player away"

It would be one player closer.

I think the Cowboys are five players away from bring very good. The defense needs a 1T, a LB, a FS and a CB, all starters. The OL needs a new LT, that can start if Smith goes down.

Of course this all hinges on signing their QB1.
