Will Last Season Change Free Agency Approach?

The Dallas Cowboys decision makers are often extremely reactive and wait until issues blow-up before they address them. The team’s FA approach revolves around cheap/short-contract risks as stop gap players while drafted players develop and should ideally take over. While there have been some disappointing FA classes recently, none were so bad that 5 of 6 didn’t make it half a season.

Will this historically bad FA class be the “blow-up” that causes the FO to move differently?

Also, Jerry did say in an interview that “we have to pay additional defense this year”. He’s not talking about any in-house extensions as there are no real extension candidates. He’s talking about UFA.

we dont typically address positions of need in Free Agency very well and sometimes outright ignore it

They need to stop signing bum players. The only worthwhile FA they signed was a massive injury risk and his quad essentially exploded before the season started. The rest of the guys were flat out scrubs. So yeah, I'd say that should be cause for a change in approach...

I have nothing to back this up with other than history and I really believe the Cowboys like the fact of losing players and getting comp picks. It would not shock me if they bank on getting comp picks for Lewis or Chido and signing free agents under that price threshold.

We still have Canady that opted out last year. He can replace Lewis or Awuzie easily. Though I still think Chido can play decently with a better scheme and a better DL.

They literally signed two defensive tackles, a safety, and a swing tackle last offseason.

Wrong players probalby, but they didn't ignore it.

I don't think this front office changes until they win a few playoff games.
If you feel you are one game away I think Jerry will override Stephen and they will spend.
Until then I think Stephen's voice will be loudest and he literally hates high priced free agents.

The way this board hates Jaylon and Zeke's paychecks is the way he hates all free agent pay checks.

First off please tell all of us which conversations you've have had with Jones where Jones told you that none of the defensive players that will become free agents that he has no interest in trying to resign. As far as extensions which mean extending current contracts that haven't expired go because of a smaller cap for 2021 that would not be a plan to start out with with the possible, again possible except would be an offensive player, Gallup.
